Fourteen referral programs and offers people still search for, and nobody still pays.

The status of each, at a glance

Bitcoin Depot: bankrupt, and the machines are switched off

The only entry here where the risk is worse than a wasted afternoon. Bitcoin Depot filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 18, 2026 and took its entire bitcoin ATM network offline the same day; regulators in Louisiana and Arkansas issued consumer alerts. The sign-up bonus deal blogs still list dates to 2018 and 2019, already marked expired on those pages. If money was stuck, note that the general deadline to file a claim passed on July 21, 2026. Swan Bitcoin: the program was retired, the blog posts were not

Swan's own help center says the Swan Force program has officially been retired, and that old referral URLs no longer work for new sign-ups; bonus lists still carry a Swan reward as though nothing happened. Swan remains a real, bitcoin-only service; what ended is the referral reward, not the company. The Swan guide points at a crypto offer that does still pay.

Blockchain.com: paused, then unpublished

Blockchain.com's own referral article said the program was temporarily paused for maintenance and operational improvements. When we went back on September 18, 2026 the article was gone: the help center no longer publishes it, and a search there for “referral” finds nothing about the program. Paused is not the same as dead, but a paused program with no page left is closer to it. If it does come back, expect different terms from the ones quoted around the internet today; right now, signing up earns nothing. Exodus: the provider said it, in its own knowledge base

Exodus published an article whose title said the referral program has ended. By September 25, 2026 that article had been taken down, and its address opened the help-center home page. The older referral terms document remains live on Exodus's own servers, which is why aggregators keep feeding on it. A second reason codes keep circulating: a video game shares the name, so search results mix the two. The Exodus guide lays out both traps.

Trust Wallet: there was never a program to end

Different in kind. Trust Wallet runs no referral, affiliate, or invite program, and none appears anywhere on its live site. The token figure repeated across dozens of coupon pages has no official source at all: it is not stale, it is invented. The thing genuinely worth reading about Trust Wallet is a security incident rather than a bonus, covered in the Trust Wallet guide.

Shopkick: the company is gone, not just the bonus

Shopkick, Inc. filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy on May 29, 2026, and chapter 7 is liquidation, not a restructuring. Its home page and its old privacy policy address both serve the same one-paragraph notice, and its support site no longer resolves. No invite code can be honored by a company that is not there. The Shopkick guide quotes the notice and the case number.

Verizon: the reward ended in October 2024

Verizon's Refer a Friend terms now open by saying the program has ended and that no codes may be generated or redeemed as of 10/20/24, and Verizon's old address for the program redirects to an FAQ saying the same. People who redeemed a code before that date kept their monthly credits; nobody new can start. The Verizon guide has the wording and the carriers that still pay.

Booking.com: closed since 2019, with the terms still up

This is the oldest ending on the page. Booking.com's Refer a Friend terms say that a booking made through a friend's link on or after Oct 15, 2019 is valid but pays neither person. The document never came down, which is all a copied figure needs to keep circulating. What a new account does get is the free Genius tier, covered in the Booking.com guide.

Citi Custom Cash: the card stopped taking applications in May 2026

Not a referral program but a welcome bonus, and it ended the same way. Citi's own page for the card now opens with a Not Available notice saying Citi is no longer accepting applications for it as of May 28, 2026, and invites anyone who wanted a cash back card to apply for the Citi Double Cash Card instead. Existing cardmembers keep their card; nobody new can get one, so no welcome bonus figure for it can be true. The Citi Custom Cash guide quotes the notice and points to cards whose offers are live.

Laurel Road: the brand merged into KeyBank in March 2026

A whole brand ended, not just a bonus. KeyBank's own transition page says the transition is complete and that Laurel Road checking, savings and credit card accounts have transitioned to similar KeyBank accounts; the Laurel Road app was discontinued after March 13, 2026. Every Laurel Road bonus, disclaimer and referral address we tried redirects to a KeyBank page with no bonus on it, so the checking bonuses that bonus lists still name exist only in the copies. Existing customers were moved over automatically; nobody new can join Laurel Road. The Laurel Road guide has KeyBank's wording and points to bank offers that are live.

Bank of America: the last checking offer expired on September 30, 2026

Not a referral program but a checking bonus offer, and the only one Bank of America still served. Its employee banking offer page told new checking customers to open through it by September 30, 2026 and printed “Offer expires on September 30, 2026.” On October 1, 2026 the page was still up, unchanged, with no new date, and Bank of America's public offer address redirected to a page saying the offer is no longer available. An account opened after the printed deadline earns no bonus under the terms as written. Bank of America may post a new date on that page, and we will re-read it. Expedia: the redemption period ran out on July 31, 2026

Expedia's referral terms set the redemption period to end at 11:59pm PST on July 31, 2026. The same terms said the coupon could take up to 30 business days to arrive. That is about six calendar weeks, so the program stopped being startable well before its printed date. A booking already made with a coupon can still be traveled, up to December 31, 2026. Expedia's terms page is no longer available, so the reading behind this line is still July 27, 2026. The Expedia guide quotes the terms and says what we have tried to read since.

Coursera: discontinued on October 25, 2024

Coursera still hosts its referral terms, under one line: “As of October 25, 2024, Coursera's Referral Program has been discontinued.” Links made before 10am PST that day could be redeemed until the promotion period closed at the end of December 2024. That date is long gone. A new subscriber on the monthly plan still gets the ordinary 7-day free trial, with no link involved. The Coursera guide covers the trial and the refund window.

ButcherBox: free protein offer ended October 27, 2026

ButcherBox offered new members free steaks in every order for a year or free chicken breasts for life, plus $20 off each of the first three boxes. Its fine print said “Offer valid until 10/27/26 or while supplies last.” On October 28, 2026 the page still showed the offer with that same date and no new one. If ButcherBox posts a new offer, our ButcherBox page will say so.

Ally GET300 and Zengo: still searched for, but not in the count

Both used to sit in the table above. The count on this page follows our directory, and neither row there is marked dead. Ally still runs a referral program that pays a new customer, so only one old Ally offer is over. Zengo has never said its program ended. We simply cannot find it, so its row reads Unconfirmed, not Ended. They stay on this page because people still search for both.

Ally GET300: the bonus is closed, the referral is not

Ally's own page says the GET300 bonus signup is closed, and required an account opened no later than November 10, 2025; there is no grandfathering. Its separate refer-a-friend program is alive, with a genuinely unusual feature for a bank offer: one route needs no direct deposit at all. Covered in the Ally guide.

Zengo: the page that described it became a 404

Zengo's referral program page returned a 404 when we could last read Zengo's site, on July 24, 2026, and no invite link appeared anywhere on it. Its help center, searched on September 25, 2026, has no referral article at all. The amounts still circulating come from aggregator sites, not Zengo, and contradict each other. eToro agreed to buy Zengo in April 2026 and says the deal completed in the second quarter. Why the dead ones keep ranking

Aggregators copy each other rather than the source, so one stale number becomes a dozen agreeing pages.

What to do instead

1. Check the provider's own page before you trust any figure. Not a review site, not a coupon board.
2. Treat two sites agreeing as one source. Two matching numbers with no primary link between them are one claim, copied.
3. Be suspicious of a number with no date next to it. Almost every dead program here still has an undated document somewhere saying it pays.
4. Look for a live alternative in the same category. The full directory is sorted so you can compare what is actually running.
