Laurel Road no longer exists for a new customer. Its accounts, app and offer pages moved into KeyBank in March 2026, and every old bonus address now lands on key.com.
KeyBank's page for former Laurel Road customers opens with: “The transition is complete. Your Laurel Road checking, savings, and/or credit card accounts have transitioned to similar KeyBank accounts.” The same page says Laurel Road has been part of KeyBank since 2019 and that everything was brought together under the KeyBank name in March 2026. Laurel Road's own website is gone with it. laurelroad.com itself redirects to key.com, the old checking bonus address lands on KeyBank's Key Smart Checking page, and the bonus disclaimers, the cashback card page, the referral page, the help page and the FAQs all land on KeyBank's student loans page.
What pays what
| You, trying to open a Laurel Road checking account today | Nothing. The address redirects to KeyBank |
|---|---|
| You, using a Laurel Road referral link | Nothing. laurelroad.com/refer/ redirects to KeyBank's student loans page |
| An existing Laurel Road customer | Accounts moved to similar KeyBank accounts, no action needed |
| The Laurel Road Student Loan Cashback credit card | Converted to Key Cashback; Laurel Road rewards ended 3/13/26 |
| KeyBank's own Key Smart Checking bonus, a separate offer | $300 for $2,000 or more in eligible direct deposits within 90 days, opened by 12/11/26 |
The transition is complete. Your Laurel Road checking, savings, and/or credit card accounts have transitioned to similar KeyBank accounts.
Do this, in this order
- Do not chase a Laurel Road bonus. There is no Laurel Road account to open, so there is no bonus to earn for opening one. Price any KeyBank account on KeyBank's own terms, because nothing Laurel Road once promised carries over to a new customer.
- Ignore any Laurel Road code or link. The referral address, the bonus disclaimers and the help pages all redirect to KeyBank pages that carry no bonus content. Nothing we read describes a way to redeem an old Laurel Road offer.
- If you were a Laurel Road customer, check where your accounts landed. KeyBank's page says: “the Laurel Road app will be discontinued after March 13, 2026”, and that you can sign on to the KeyBank mobile app with the same username and password. Student loans are still serviced by MOHELA. A digital wallet keeps working until you activate the new KeyBank card, after which the new card must be added. The credit card FAQ says: “Your Laurel Road Student Loan Cashback Rewards program will end on 3/13/26, and your new KeyBank Cashback Rewards program will begin on 3/14/26.” The old card could be used until 5/16/26 or until the new one was activated, whichever came first; the opt-out deadline of 3/12/26 has passed.
- If you want a bank bonus, read KeyBank's own offer as a KeyBank offer. The Key Smart Checking page pays $300 for opening by 12/11/26 with offer code KDMA0526 and receiving $2,000 or more in eligible ACH direct deposits within 90 days. Deposits made through a teller, ATM or the KeyBank mobile app do not count, the bonus is reported on Form 1099-INT and paid within 60 days of qualifying, and it is not available to anyone who was a primary owner of a KeyBank personal checking account in the last 12 months. Applying online is for residents of the 15 states where KeyBank has branches. Our KeyBank guide, linked below, has the rest.
What KeyBank's pages say, and what no page says any more
A reference page, not a front door. The transition page prints no revision date and is marked noindex, nofollow, so search engines are told to leave it alone. It keeps its old FAQs and warns that some answers are written in the future tense because they predate the transition; it says the information is still current. It puts the transition on the weekend of March 13 to 15, 2026, with access to Laurel Road discontinued by March 16.
No Laurel Road terms survive. Every disclaimer address we tried redirects, so the amounts and conditions of the old checking bonuses exist today only on third-party pages that copied them while they ran. We do not quote those, because there is no longer a company document to check them against. That is the whole reason a dead offer keeps circulating: the marketing came down, the copies did not.
Same privacy policy, 15 branch states. The page says: “No, there are no differences between the KeyBank Privacy Policy and the Laurel Road Privacy Policy.” It lists KeyBank's branches in 15 states, from Alaska to Washington; Laurel Road, by contrast, had no branch to be limited to.
What this page does not cover. Laurel Road's offers only. KeyBank's own bonuses are judged in the KeyBank guide.
Is it worth your time?
No, because there is nothing to claim. The only readers with something at stake are former Laurel Road customers, and their job is to sign in to KeyBank and check that every account, card and loan arrived. For everyone else the lesson is the usual one: a bonus outlives its program on the pages that copied it, not on the company's own. Laurel Road's pages are gone, and KeyBank's say so plainly.
If you are choosing a bank anyway, we have read the terms of the three below. KeyBank pays a real bonus on its own account, with its own exclusions; the other two show what a bank with no public bonus looks like, which is a fair comparison for a brand that now has none.
