Stitch Fix waives its $20 styling fee on your first Fix and takes $20 off what you keep; every Fix after that costs $20 before it ships, and you lose it if you keep nothing.
Stitch Fix's pricing page says: “Get $20 off your first order, plus we’ll waive the $20 styling fee so you can try personalized picks with no upfront cost.” The help center agrees; neither names a code. The same pricing page says “Items starting at $29”, but the Terms of Use warn: “Typically, for Fix purchases, Stitch Fix does not disclose the prices of its Products until you receive a Fix.” You set a price range; you see real prices when the box arrives.
What pays what
| You, a new client, on your first Fix | Styling fee waived, $20 off your checkout |
|---|---|
| Every Fix after the first | $20 styling fee, applied toward what you keep from that Fix |
| A later Fix where you keep nothing | $20 lost |
| Keeping five or more items from one Fix | 20% off the entire purchase (Kids: only if you keep it all); may be adjusted if you return one |
| You, for using a friend's link | A “Referred Client Credit”; no amount stated |
After your first Fix, there is a $20 styling fee per shipment. This fee is then automatically applied toward your checkout to help pay for any items you decide to keep in that specific order. This charge usually occurs about two weeks before your Fix delivery date. The styling fee is non-refundable and cannot be rolled over to your next delivery or transferred to another person.
Do this, in this order
- Sign up on your own or through a friend's link. The Terms say: “You must be at least 18 years old to be a Client.” A friend's link counts only if you are new to Stitch Fix and order a Fix meeting a minimum, for example “spending at least $25 with Stitch Fix”.
- Decide inside the window. The return policy gives “a 3-day window to decide what to keep and to send back the rest” (you can request an extension). Let it lapse and the Terms decide for you: “We will assume that you have chosen to keep any Products in the Fix that you do not postmark back to us by the end of the Try-On Period”.
- Know that a kept item can still go back. “If you decide to keep an item, but later change your mind, you have 30 days from the item purchase date to return it for a refund.” It must be unworn, unwashed and have all original tags attached. If you got the five-item discount, the Terms say the discount and your refund may be adjusted.
- Check your Fix frequency before a second Fix is styled. When you schedule a Fix, a pop-up asks how often to send them; the help center says to select No Thanks there if you prefer one at a time. Automatic choices are every 2 to 3 weeks, every month, every other month or every three months (Kids: monthly or slower). To stop them: profile icon, Fix Frequency, Manage Fix Frequency, Proceed to cancel.
- Cancel a Fix you do not want early. The cancellation article says: “Once your Stylist begins working on your Fix, you will no longer see the option to cancel.” It then sends you to support and says a charged fee is refunded once the Fix is successfully canceled. The Terms are stricter: you are responsible for “the Styling Fee for any Fix that is not cancelled before it is styled”.
Where Stitch Fix's pages disagree, and what we could not read
Credit from a friend's link expires after 90 days, whatever the help center says. The article on checking your credit says: “Referral credits have no expiration date and can be used toward any purchase, including the styling fee.” The article on referring friends hints otherwise, mentioning a message “letting you know that your referral credit is expiring”. The binding Terms settle it, and also let Stitch Fix remove credit at any time and void it all when your account closes:
Unless extended by Stitch Fix at our discretion, Referral Credits and Referred Client Credits will automatically expire ninety (90) days from issuance.
A friend's link adds little to the first Fix. Your credit from it has no stated amount, and the invite page says “your referral credit goes toward the $20 styling fee”, a fee the first Fix already waives.
Three answers to when the $20 is charged. The help center says “about two weeks before your Fix delivery date”. The how-it-works page says “when the Stylist begins selecting pieces for your Fix”. The Terms say “between the time the order is placed and the time we ship your Fix”. Plan on the earliest.
What is still not written down. The Terms (last updated December 31, 2025) list no states; they only let Stitch Fix refuse an address “outside the geographic area that we serve”. They give the first-Fix offer no end date. The referral page showing amounts needs an account, and we open no one's invite link. The help articles carry no revision date. The Terms also require individual arbitration and waive class actions.
Is it worth your time?
As a first look, yes. Nothing is charged before the first Fix ships, returns are free, and $20 comes off anything you keep. A friend's link costs you nothing and may add a credit of no stated amount; spend it within 90 days.
After that, do the sum before each box. A later Fix where you keep nothing costs $20, so four of them is $80 for no clothes.
If you refer friends yourself once your own first Fix is checked out, the account menu reads “Refer & get $25”, and your earnings are capped at $599 a calendar year. That credit also expires 90 days after it is issued.
