DoorDash deep dive

The DoorDash referral credit did not arrive. Here is the sentence that took it.

Most likely DoorDash already had a record of you. Its terms disqualify a new-customer offer where your name, email, phone number, or credit card was used for a prior order or is linked to an active or inactive account.

Terms examined Jul 27, 2026 5 min read Decided at checkout, silently
A prior record of your name, email, phone or card kills most DoorDash referral credits. DoorDash checks at checkout, not sign-up, and never says which line failed.

This one clause accounts for most missing DoorDash credits. Six other documented causes account for the rest.

1. DoorDash already had a record of you

The clause that ends most DoorDash referral stories sits in the promotional terms, not the referral terms:

Quoted from DoorDash

“For Offers available to new customers or new subscribers, as applicable, customers will be disqualified and will not be entitled to receive the Offer if DoorDash has a record of their name, email, phone number, or credit card having being used for a prior DoorDash order or being linked to an existing active or inactive DoorDash account or otherwise suspected of fraudulent activity.”
The grammatical stumble in having being used is DoorDash's, not ours.

Any one identifier is enough, and a prior order counts as much as a prior account. An inactive account from years ago still counts, and so does a card once used for someone else's order. Signing up again with a clean email does not dodge it either:

Quoted from DoorDash

“The Referral Credit was received in connection with a New User who has previously created a DoorDash account, even if such other account was created using a different email address, phone number, or other information.”
That document carries the line last updated May 1, 2023.

What to do: nothing. Neither document has an appeal path, and the qualifying condition is flatly The New User has not previously registered on the DoorDash platform. Tell your referrer their credit isn't coming either.

2. Sign-up worked. Checkout is where it was actually decided

An account created without complaint commits nothing:

Quoted from DoorDash

“Final eligibility for the New User’s offer will be determined at checkout.”

Every condition is judged in its sole discretion, no reason given. The risk outlasts checkout too:

Quoted from DoorDash

“Offer must be used when placing a order, but the Offer may not be applied if all conditions are not met after fulfillment of any order applying the Offer.”

What to do: nothing for this order, it's already decided. Next time, confirm the discount line is on the checkout screen before you place the order; if it is missing, abandon the cart.

3. The credit is there, just not on the line you're watching

Many missing credits applied quietly to a smaller base than expected:

Quoted from DoorDash

“Credits are applied toward order subtotals (excluding gratuity and alcohol purchases). Credits may not be applied with any other Offer.”

Subtotal excludes fees, tax, and the tip for your driver. A $46 bill can be discounting a subtotal in the low thirties. Promo codes cut even less:

Quoted from DoorDash

“Promo codes for credits cannot be applied towards taxes or fees other than delivery fees (including but not limited to service fees, small order fees, and surge fees).”

What to do: compare the credit against the subtotal and remove any other promo; stacking can suppress it entirely.

The two clocks people mix up

6 months from issue Account credit expires.
30 days, undated A promo code with no date defaults to 30 days from when it was sent or last displayed to consumers, a date you cannot look up.

Read July 27, 2026. DoorDash's own computer is the official timekeeper for both.

What to do: if it expired, it's gone. No reinstatement path exists in either document. More on both clocks in how long DoorDash credit lasts.

The mechanical causes, and the only ones you can actually fix

  • An out-of-date app. Offers redeem only on DoorDash.com or on the DoorDash app with the latest version, and within DoorDash service areas and service hours.
  • No valid payment method on file. Customers must have a valid DoorDash account with a valid form of accepted payment on file to take advantage of an Offer.
  • Applying it after the fact. Offers cannot be applied retroactively for prior purchases.
  • Stacking. Offers cannot be combined unless otherwise indicated. Another promo on the cart may be why it's absent.

What to do: update the app, confirm a valid card is on file, clear any other promo, and check the checkout screen before confirming. Still missing? You're almost certainly back at cause 1.

Or the account that referred you decided it for you

Two of the five conditions for a new user's offer sit outside your control entirely: the account that sent you the link must not have reached its referral cap, and that account must be active, with DoorDash not suspecting it of fraud.

A friend at the cap, or with a suspended account, has a dead link, and nothing warns you at sign-up. What to do: ask them if their account is active and roughly how many they've referred.

  • Qualified referrals one account may bank in the US or Canada10
  • The same cap in Australia or New Zealand5

That cap belongs to the account that referred you, and nothing on your side shows you where it stands.

What neither document says

How much the credit isNot stated, varies per account
The minimum order size requiredNot stated
Any appeal or review processNot stated

The referral terms say the amount varies over time and is stated only inside the account holding it, so no site can honestly quote yours. More on that in how much is the DoorDash referral.

Getting a ticket read

Support fixes data errors, not clauses. Every cause above except the mechanical ones is a clause.

  1. Confirm it's a fact you're disputing, not a rule. Any DoorDash record of you means a ticket changes nothing.
  2. Send it in one message: registration date, how the link reached you, the qualifying order's date, number and subtotal, and a checkout screenshot with no discount showing.
  3. If you're the one who sent the link, add your friend's order date and your current referral count.
  4. Quoted the disqualification clause back? That's the end of it. Stop rather than escalate.

Quick answer

Can I just use a different email to get around it?

No. DoorDash can revoke credit where the new user has previously created a DoorDash account, even if such other account was created using a different email address, phone number, or other information.

If you refer friends yourself, that credit can be clawed back too: posting your link on a public site instead of sending it directly, going over the referral cap, or getting flagged for fraud can all void credit already paid, at DoorDash's discretion. The rule against posting the link publicly is why this site carries no DoorDash link of its own.
