All offers / Cash back / TopCashback
The $40 goes to whoever referred you. Your own side is not published anywhere.
The bar is $10 of cash back earned, and cash back is the commission a store pays TopCashback for sending you, which TopCashback then passes on. Having spent $10 does nothing at all. Those are wildly different numbers: a store paying a small percentage means many times $10 has to go through the door before the counter reaches ten dollars of actual earnings, and it only counts once the store has confirmed the sale.
- A friend’s link, once you have earned $10 in cash back$40
- The same referral, arriving through a comparison or deals websiteNo more than $5
TopCashback’s own figures, examined July 24, 2026. Neither bar is your side of the deal: TopCashback publishes no amount for the new member.
What pays what
| The friend who referred you, once you have earned $10 in cash back | $40 |
|---|---|
| You, the new member | Not published by TopCashback |
| A referral coming from a comparison or deals website | No more than $5 |
| Spending $10 rather than earning $10 back | Nothing happens |
| Cash back still sitting pending, unconfirmed by the retailer | Does not count yet |
| A second account for the same person | Account terminated |
| Requesting your money out | Any payable balance, no minimum |
A number of other sites are currently quoting a $50 US referral bonus. TopCashback's own live page said $40 in two separate places on the day we read it, so $40 is what we publish. The rest of the detail, including the current time limit, the excluded merchants and whether the new member gets anything, sits behind a member login on the Tell-a-Friend page, which is an odd place to keep the terms of an offer aimed at people who do not have an account yet.
Do this, in this order
- Get the link from a person, not a page. Worth knowing before you accept: TopCashback says the referrer may be able to see whether you have reached the cash back threshold, along with the date you signed up and your username.
- Fix the right number in your head: $10 earned. Not $10 spent. Plan your shopping around the rate a store is actually paying that week, because a low rate on a big purchase can still leave the counter short.
- Expect "pending" to last a while. Pending means TopCashback has seen the click and the sale but the retailer has not confirmed and paid yet. That confirmation can take weeks and sometimes months, and if a retailer never pays a manual claim, TopCashback reserves the right to close the enquiry after six months.
- Do not assume you have 180 days. The only place we could read a time limit was TopCashback's own blog post for a March 2026 promotion, which stated 180 days and has since expired. The live page states no window at all until you sign in.
- Check exclusions before you count on a purchase. The terms confirm that certain merchants and transaction types are excluded and then point you at a members-only section of the site for the list. We could not read that list, so we are not going to repeat the merchant names other sites publish. Check it inside your account before you rely on a big order.
- Log in at least once every six months, then cash out whenever you like. TopCashback does not require you to buy anything, but it does require a login every six months, and quiet accounts can be terminated as dormant. On the good side there is genuinely no minimum payout: you can request money as soon as any of it is payable, by bank transfer, PayPal, Venmo or gift card, and some gift cards carry a bonus of up to 5%. Bank transfers by ACH are for US account holders, and there is a short cooling-off period before you can request the next payment.
Is it worth your time?
TopCashback as a cash back site has a real advantage worth naming: no minimum payout, so small amounts do not get stranded the way they do at most of its rivals. The referral, though, is a deal you mostly do for someone else. Their $40 is written down; your side is not written down anywhere we could reach, and the trigger is $10 of confirmed earnings that may take months to confirm. So join if you shop online enough to make cash back worth having, do it through a friend's link so at least the $40 goes to someone you like, and do not think of the referral as your bonus. If you want a bonus that lands in your own pocket, Rakuten currently pays $50 to both sides.
