Tangem Examined Jul 27, 2026 Hardware wallet No recovery phrase by default

A Tangem referral code saves you 10%. So does typing an email address into their website.

Worth it ifa card-shaped wallet with no recovery phrase actually suits how you live, which is a bigger decision than the discount. Do not spend a minute hunting for a referral code: the 10% it gives you is the same 10% Tangem hands to anyone who leaves an email address on its own site.

10% offfor the buyer using a referral code, and the identical 10% for a buyer who simply gives Tangem an email address. The person whose code you used gets 5 USDT, thirty days later

A friend’s code and Tangem’s own newsletter box put the same discount on the same order. A referral code buys you nothing extra, because the same 10% sits behind an email capture box on Tangem’s own pages. Using a friend’s code is a kindness to them, not a saving for you, and that is worth knowing before you go looking for one. The part of this purchase that genuinely deserves your attention is further down: Tangem has no recovery phrase unless you create one, and the backup can only be made once.

There are three different Tangem programs and only one of them is this. The referral program lives inside the Tangem mobile app: you scan your own card to activate it, share your link, and 5 USDT lands in your wallet per sale. Separately there is an influencer tier with rewards Tangem does not publish, and separately again a reseller program, which is a different business entirely: you buy wallets wholesale and sell them at a margin. If a page promises you reseller-sized money for sharing a link, it has mixed two things up.

USDT is a stablecoin, meaning a crypto coin pinned to the US dollar, so 5 USDT is worth about five dollars. It is paid on the Tron network directly into the referrer’s own Tangem wallet, which is why you cannot collect without owning the hardware: there is no PayPal option and no bank transfer. Tangem states there is no limit to how many referrals you can make and no minimum payout, and that the commission is sent no later than 30 days after each purchase. Tangem publishes no standalone referral terms document with a last-updated date, so these are the numbers on Tangem’s help pages as we read them on July 24, 2026, not clauses in a dated contract.

Do this, in this order

  1. Take the 10% the easy way and stop shopping for codes. Tangem’s own pages carry an email capture that reads, in plain words, leave an email and get a 10% discount. If a friend owns a Tangem, using their code costs you nothing and earns them five dollars, so do it as a favour.
  2. Buy the three-card set, not the two-card set. Tangem is sold in sets of two or three devices and you cannot buy a single card. The cards are clones of each other and they are your only backup.
  3. Understand that the backup is a one-time operation. Tangem states you can back up and clone a private key only once. Add one backup card now and you cannot add more later. Decide on three at the moment of purchase or live with two forever.
  4. Know that there is no recovery phrase by default. Most hardware wallets hand you a recovery phrase, also called a seed phrase, a list of words that can rebuild your wallet on any device if the hardware is lost. Tangem is seedless unless you deliberately choose to create one. Tangem puts the consequence bluntly: losing all your devices will result in losing your funds. Some people find that liberating, because there is no phrase for a thief or a phishing email to extract. Others should not touch it.
  5. Store the cards in genuinely separate places. The whole point of a two or three card set is that one of them survives a fire, a burglary, or a house move. Two cards in the same drawer is one card with extra steps.
  6. Buy only from the official store. Third-party marketplace sellers have shipped tampered or already set up devices. If you do choose to create a recovery phrase, write it on paper, never type it into a phone or computer, never photograph it, and never share it. No legitimate company will ever ask you for it.
  7. Do not plan around a limited-time promotion. On the day we examined this, Tangem’s affiliates page was running a separate stacked promotion with extra Bitcoin rewards and an extra 10% off, labelled as ending on July 27, 2026. Three days is not an offer, it is a window. Check the live page for what is actually running rather than trusting any number, ours included, as a standing deal.

Is it worth your time?

The referral is not worth your time. Ten percent is ten percent whether it came from a friend or from a newsletter box, so take whichever is in front of you and move on. The wallet itself is a real decision: a seedless card set with a one-shot backup is either exactly what you want or exactly what will ruin your week in five years. Spend the time you would have spent code hunting on choosing the three-card set and finding two safe places to keep them.
