All offers / Money apps / Cash App
The Cash App bonus is $10. The $5 everyone quotes is what you have to send.
The three conditions are the code, a linked card or bank account that stays linked, and a $5 payment to somebody else inside 14 days. The $5 is what you send, not what you receive, and confusing the two is the single most common error written about this offer. We take that apart in full on is the Cash App bonus $5 or $10. One more thing to be straight about: Cash App publishes no figure for the referrer. Its help page says both parties claim "their referral bonuses" but never numbers your side, so we will not either.
- What you receive, as the new customer$10
- What you have to send to somebody else to qualify$5
Two figures from the same three conditions, and the smaller one is the one you pay out. For the person whose code you entered, Cash App publishes nothing.
What pays what
| You, as the new customer, after the code, the card and a $5 payment inside 14 days | $10 |
|---|---|
| The friend whose code you entered | Cash App publishes no figure |
| Money you have to deposit or keep on the app | $0 |
| How long payment takes once you qualify | Within 30 days |
| Sending the $5 more than 14 days after the code | Nothing |
| Sending the $5 to an account you own or that is linked to you | Does not qualify |
| Unlinking your card or bank account before the bonus is paid | Breaks the condition |
| A Sponsor inviting an account they have already authorised | Not eligible |
| Anyone outside the U.S., or a second bonus for the same person | Not eligible |
| The separate Cash App Card referral | A discount, not a bonus |
That last row catches a lot of people. Cash App runs a Cash App Card referral as well, advertised as $40 off a purchase: a discount on something you buy, with its own rules. If you came here after seeing "$40", you were looking at the card offer, not this one.
Do this, in this order
- Get the app first, and the code from someone you actually know. Both sides are described as claiming a bonus, so a friend who already uses Cash App has every reason to hand theirs over.
- Do not enter the code until you have half an hour. Entering it is what starts the 14 days.
- Put the code into your profile. Do not assume that tapping a friend's link did it for you: check that the code is actually recorded.
- Link a new debit card or bank account, and leave it linked. The terms require you to "keep a debit card or bank account linked until the referral bonus is paid", so unlinking it the moment you have sent the $5 loses the reward.
- Send $5 to somebody else, inside 14 days. The terms say the recipient account "must not be owned by or linked to you", so a payment to yourself does not count. Send it to someone who will send it back if you ask nicely.
- For a family account, add two more requirements. On accounts for ages 13 and over, a parent or guardian has to approve the account, and a physical Cash Card has to be both ordered and activated.
- Do not let the Sponsor be the referrer. Cash App's terms say sponsors and their sponsored accounts "are not eligible to invite each other for a referral bonus", so if a parent is setting up a teenager's account, the code should come from somebody else.
- Then wait, up to a month. The terms say eligible bonuses "will be paid out within 30 days after all requirements are completed". Nothing has gone wrong on day three.
The correction: we said the amount was unpublished, and it is not
We got this wrong. Until July 27, 2026 this page said Cash App does not publish the bonus amount. It does. The figure sits in Cash App's Affiliate Disclosures, under the heading "Cash App Referral Bonus – Terms & Conditions", and it reads "To receive the $10 referral bonus, you must:". We had built the page from the help page a reader would naturally open, "Where's My Invitation Bonus?", which lists the steps and stops without ever naming a figure. We read the obvious document, found silence, and published the silence as if it were the whole record. That is the mistake, and it is ours rather than Cash App's.
Why we now believe the $10. The same "Cash App Referral Bonus – Terms & Conditions" block appears word for word on two separately dated Cash App legal pages: the Affiliate Disclosures, marked "Effective: April 16, 2026" and "Last Updated: April 17, 2026", and the Podcast Disclosures, marked "Last Updated: April 21, 2026", including the $10, the 14 days and the 30-day payout.
The lesson we are keeping. A help centre is written to answer a question; a legal page is written to bind somebody. When the two disagree about what exists, the legal page is the one that decides. So we now read a company's terms, disclosures and program conditions as a matter of course, and we treat a help article's silence as a fact about that article rather than a fact about the offer.
The fine print that can still cost you the reward
"Referral codes are one time use", and Cash App never says one time by whom. That is the whole sentence in the terms. It could mean a code works once ever, or once per person. Cash App does not define it anywhere we can find, so neither will we.
The sequence is the requirement. Code entered, card or bank account linked and kept linked, $5 sent to somebody who is not you, all within 14 days of the code. Get the order wrong and every individual step can be complete while the reward is not.
Eligibility is narrower than the steps suggest. The terms say the offer is "valid for new Cash App customers in the U.S. only" with a "Limit one referral bonus per person", and that users aged 13 to 17 need a parent or legal guardian to sponsor the account.
Is it worth your time?
Yes, if you were getting Cash App anyway. Nothing is deposited, nothing is locked up, the $5 goes to a person, and $10 for about five minutes of setup is a fair trade even after waiting up to 30 days to see it. If you are the one giving out the code, Cash App has never said what your side is worth. Enter the code when you are ready to finish, keep the card linked until the money lands, and you are done.
