All offers / Everyday services / Airalo
Airalo takes $3 off your first eSIM. The reward is in-app credit, and its terms page is currently down.
This tends to come up in the week before a trip, with a friend's code sitting in a text message and a data plan half-bought. Your side is a straight $3 off, but only on a first purchase and only if the code goes in when you create the account. The referrer's side is Airmoney, which is credit rather than cash: Airalo describes it as an in-app reward currency for future purchases, and its terms call it non-transferable, non-negotiable, and non-encashable. Airalo sells eSIMs, meaning a SIM card built into the phone that you activate by downloading a plan, which is why people mostly buy them for data abroad.
What pays what
| You, new to Airalo, code applied at signup, first purchase completed | $3 off |
|---|---|
| The person whose code you used | US$3 in Airmoney |
| How many people they can refer | No limit |
| Your second and later purchases | First purchase only |
| Anyone who already has an Airalo account | $0 |
| Stacking the code with another promotion | Not allowed |
| Paying for an auto-renewing package with Airmoney | Not allowed |
| An Airmoney balance under $1.00 | Cannot be applied |
Do this, in this order
- Get a code from someone who already uses Airalo. Existing users find their referral code in the app. There is no version of this that works without one.
- Apply it when you create the account, not at checkout later. Airalo's terms require the referred person to be new to Airalo and to create the account using the referral code.
- Spend it on your first purchase, because there is no second chance. The discount is valid for the first purchase only. If you buy a $4 eSIM to test the app, that is where your $3 went.
- Do not try to stack it with a sale. The referral discount cannot be combined or used alongside any other promotion, on either side. A referrer applying their own code during another promotion may find the referral discount simply does not apply.
- If you end up holding Airmoney, watch the rolling clock. Since February 1, 2025 Airalo's help center states Airmoney can expire. Every purchase you make pushes the expiry date out by a year, and so does any new Airmoney landing in your account. It is a rolling one year deadline from your last bit of activity, not a hard cap.
- Know the two spending rules before you count on the credit. Airmoney cannot currently be used to pay for renewals, so an auto-renewing package has to be paid for some other way. And a balance below $1.00 cannot be applied at all.
The fine print, and the gap in it
Airalo is actively running this program: the how-it-works article was updated on July 8, 2026, sixteen days before we examined it.
The official terms have no readable current version. The referral terms URL returns a server error, the archived copy is from October 2024, and that copy carries no internal revision date of its own. Everything on this page comes from Airalo's live marketing page, its live help center, and that archive, cross-checked.
Airalo can revoke the reward. The archived terms reserve the right to withdraw it for suspicious or fraudulent purchasing activity, for promotion abuse including multiple accounts or multiple checkouts, and for buying products in order to resell them.
There is no clawback, because there is nothing to cancel. An eSIM package is a one-time purchase, so unlike every carrier on this site there is no line that has to survive a waiting period and no way for a later cancellation to reverse the reward.
Country eligibility is not spelled out. No geographic restriction appears in the terms we could read. Airalo's help center does mention that Airmoney converts if you change your account currency, which implies it operates across markets. If you are outside the US, confirm in the app.
No end date, and no promises. Airalo publishes no closing date for the program and reserves the right to change the terms or cancel any promotion at any time. At $3, that is a small thing to lose.
Is it worth your time?
If you are buying an Airalo eSIM before a trip, ask a friend for their code, put it in when you create the account, and take the $3. That is the whole job, there is no waiting period, and nothing about it can go wrong later. It is not a reason to buy an eSIM you did not need, and referring people is barely worth the effort: $3 a head in credit that only spends at Airalo, and the cap being unlimited does not make small money large.
