Whoop gives a new member one free month, by a member's code or by its trial, and the trial rolls into a paid year unless you send the band back on its own schedule.
Whoop's referral article says a referred friend “will receive one free month when they join WHOOP.” Separately, its membership page offers a 1-month free trial of Peak on a certified pre-owned WHOOP 5.0. The two do not stack. The page listed One at $199 a year, Peak at $239 and Life at $359. On Peak, one month is worth about $19.92 ($239 divided by 12).
What pays what
| You, on the free trial, no code needed | 1 month of Peak on a new or pre-owned band |
|---|---|
| That trial, if you do not cancel | A paid Peak year, listed at $239 |
| Trial cancelled, band not returned | $110 restocking fee |
| You, joining through a member's referral code | 1 free month |
| Referral credit on hardware or upgrade fees | Not allowed |
| A membership bought through an authorized retailer | Referral credits cannot be used |
The referral article adds: “Regretfully, promotions cannot be combined or stacked.” And on where a code works: “Refer a Friend program and credits are only valid for purchases made directly through WHOOP.”
Do this, in this order
- Pick one route. If you only want to try a band, take the trial. If you have decided to buy, a member's code adds a free month and keeps Whoop's 30-day return. Referral credits cannot be used to extend free trials, and at least one paid month must come first.
- Buy directly from Whoop. Codes and credits do not work on a membership bought through an authorized retailer. Free trials are only for new end users, in the countries shown at sign-up.
- On the trial, start the return inside the month. In the app: More, then My Account, then Membership, and follow the cancellation flow. Download the label, mail the band and charger within 7 days, and keep proof of posting. The Terms of Use say the trial otherwise rolls into a paid Peak annual membership at the fee in effect when the trial started.
- On a purchase, decide within 30 days. A bought membership can be cancelled and the band returned within 30 days of receipt for a full refund minus shipping. After that, the Terms of Use say Whoop will not provide any prorated refund for the current term, and a monthly payer inside a 12-month commitment must pay it off or let it run out.
For clarity, if you are using the WHOOP Device and Services pursuant to a Free Trial, the thirty (30) day return policy does not apply to you.
Where Whoop's pages differ, and what it does not publish
When a membership starts. The membership page says it starts when you pair and activate the band, or 30 days after the strap is shipped. The Terms of Use say 30 days after delivery. If you bought and have not yet paired, count from shipping to be safe.
Which band the trial sends. The membership page offers the trial on a certified pre-owned WHOOP 5.0. The Terms of Use say a trial device may be new or pre-owned, at Whoop's discretion.
A bundled extra with a string. The membership page offers a free year of Natural Cycles to eligible customers new to it, tied to an active Whoop membership; if the membership ends, standard Natural Cycles fees apply. No page prints an end date for the trial or the referral program. The Terms of Use are dated August 3, 2026 and the referral article September 4, 2026.
Is it worth your time?
The trial is a genuine try-before-you-buy, and a month is long enough to learn whether you will wear a band every night. Its cost is the return: you must start it in the app inside the month and post the band within a week, or pay for a Peak year or a $110 fee. Put both dates in your calendar on day one.
If you already mean to buy, a member's code is the better route: a free month, worth about $19.92 on Peak, and the ordinary 30-day return still applies.
