Examined Oct 2, 2026 The trial costs $1 No referral reward

The Walmart+ trial costs $1, not nothing, and the full month or year is charged the moment it ends, while cancelling early can cost you the rest of the trial.

Worth it ifyou have a month of grocery orders to test it on (scheduled deliveries need $35) and you will act near day 30. The $1 is small and the prices are plain. What catches people is the timing: cancel too early and Walmart may end the trial on the spot, cancel too late and a full term is billed.

30 days for $1of Walmart+ for a new member, then the full price unless you cancel

The Walmart+ page leads with “Try 30 days of Walmart+ for just $1” and its button reads “Unlock my $1 trial”. Many people still call it a free trial; on October 2, 2026 it was not. The Terms of Use cover both kinds: “Walmart may offer eligible customers the opportunity for a free or promotional price trial of Walmart+.” Nothing is paid to you for joining, and no one is paid for referring you.

Cancelling early can end the trial the same day. The Terms say: “If you cancel during a trial period, Walmart may terminate your Walmart+ membership or any Plus Up benefit immediately, in which case you will lose the benefits of the trial immediately. No refunds will be issued.” Then, the moment the trial ends: “FOLLOWING ANY TRIAL PERIOD, YOU WILL BE CHARGED IMMEDIATELY FOR THE INITIAL TERM.” No page we read gives a time of day, so cancel a day or two before the end, not the first week.

What pays what

A new member starting the trial on the Walmart+ page30 days for $1
Monthly plan once the trial ends$12.95 a month, plus tax
Annual plan once the trial ends$98 a year, plus tax
Government assistance recipients and college students, after verification$49 a year or $6.47 a month
One adult at your address, through Benefits Sharing, once you are a paid memberCertain benefits, no cash
You or a friend, for a referral$0, no program
A second trial on a new accountBlocked

Twelve months at $12.95 is $155.40, so a member who stays a year pays $57.40 less on the annual plan. Tax is not a single rate: the Terms say that, as of August 24, 2026, 65 percent of the charge is the base for sales and use tax and 35 percent the base for a separate streaming tax, where one applies. Walmart+ is only for customers with a U.S. billing address, with benefits limited in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

Do this, in this order

  1. Make sure this is your first trial. The rule is one per eligible customer, quoted below, and Walmart says it may close the account of anyone abusing the offer.
  2. Keep a payment method on file. The Terms require at least one valid payment method at all times, and say you cannot remove the last one without first cancelling. After the trial, Walmart may charge any card saved in your wallet, not only the one you started with.
  3. Test the benefits the trial actually includes. Free delivery on an order where you pick a time slot needs $35; below that, Walmart charges a below-order-minimum fee. Orders where you do not pick a slot are delivered free with no minimum. The Terms warn that not all offers or benefits may be available during a trial; Early Access deals are for paid members only, and Benefits Sharing excludes trial members.
  4. Choose monthly or annual before the trial ends. The first charge is $12.95 or $98, immediately. The annual fee does not come back if you change your mind: the membership fee is non-refundable except as the Terms expressly set out.
  5. Cancel near the end, in the app or by phone. The Terms name Account, then Walmart+, then the gear icon, or Walmart Customer Care at (800) 924-9206. Once you are paid, cancelling keeps your benefits until the end of the term.
Only one such trial is allowed per eligible customer. Walmart will block any additional attempts to utilize this offer and reserves the right to terminate any membership and/or Walmart.com account of any member abusing this offer, in its sole discretion.

What Walmart does not publish, and where its pages disagree

A referral reward. The Terms describe no refer-a-friend payment. A paid member may invite one person who is at least 18 and lives full-time at the same address. If the member removes that person, “the primary member may not invite a different shared member for 180 days.” The streaming choice and Burger King benefits can stay with the primary member only.

An end date or a cut-off hour. The $1 offer prints no expiry, and the Terms say the chance to sign up may be revoked at any time.

Two savings figures on one page. The headline says annual members save an average of $380 a year; its own footnote says $382, among annual members with at least 12 months of membership, and excludes the $98 fee. Both are Walmart's estimates, and the Terms say actual savings may vary and are not guaranteed.

The discount can lapse into full price. For Assist and Student members, the Terms say that if annual re-verification fails, the plan renews at the prices then in effect unless you cancel first. The Terms carry the line “Last Updated: September 28th, 2026”; we re-read them on October 2.

Is it worth your time?

If you would place a few delivery orders (scheduled ones need $35) in the next month, $1 is a cheap way to find out whether $12.95 a month earns its keep. Put two dates in your calendar: one for day 25 to decide, one for day 28 or 29 to cancel if the answer is no. Cancelling on day three is the costly mistake, because the trial can end with it.

Skip it if you are hoping for a referral bonus; there is none. And if you qualify for Assist or Student, compare the half-price plan at $49 a year before you let the trial convert at $98.
