Unchained Examined Jul 27, 2026 Bitcoin custody Referral-only discount

No client link, no discount, and the old public referral page is dead. Otherwise Unchained takes $50 off a vault, or $250 off Signature, automatically.

Worth it ifyou were already buying an Unchained vault or a Signature subscription. The discount is real, automatic and written down in dated terms, which is more than most of this category manages. It is also a discount on a service for people who hold serious bitcoin, so it is not a reason to become one.

$50 or $250off your first purchase, depending on what you buy: $50 off Unchained vault products, $250 off Unchained Signature. The terms say a promo code is applied automatically

A vault here means bitcoin held in cold storage, with the keys that control the coins kept offline instead of on an exchange's servers, sold as a subscription, and Signature is the higher tier of the same idea. Your discount only attaches to a purchase made through a referral link, and it needs no code you type in.

The referral page you will find in a search is dead. The old address, unchained.com/refer-a-friend, returns a 404, but search engines and page caches still serve the old copy. The current marketing page that replaced it was pushed live before anyone finished it: a FAQ heading reads "[insert disclaimer about referral agreement]", the sample email says "[Paste Referral link here]", and the "Get my referral link" button points at Unchained's jobs board. None of that changes the deal, which is set out cleanly in the referral agreement itself.

What pays what

You, new client, buying a vault through a referral link$50 off
You, new client, buying Signature through a referral link$250 off
Buying without a referral link$0
Using the discount a second time on a later purchaseNot allowed
Gannett Trust Company products and servicesExcluded

You can only use a referral link once, on your first subscription purchase, so there is no second bite at it later. If two different links led you here, only one discount is honoured. And opening a second account to claim it again for yourself is explicitly out.

Do this, in this order

  1. Work out whether you want the product before you want the discount. This is bitcoin custody sold on subscription, aimed at people holding an amount they are not willing to leave on an exchange.
  2. Get a link from a real client, not from a search result. The discount only attaches to a purchase made through a referral link, and the old public referral page is gone. If you do not know an Unchained client, you pay the normal price; there is no public code to hunt for.
  3. Watch the checkout screen. The terms say new customers see a promo code applied automatically to their first purchase. Confirm the total actually dropped by $50 or $250 before you pay, and stop and ask if it did not.
  4. Leave the purchase alone for thirty days. Your discount is confirmed thirty days after your first purchase. If that purchase is refunded, charged back, reversed or cancelled inside that window, the reward is not earned.
  5. Do not buy ads on the word "Unchained". Promoting a referral code through paid advertising on that keyword is prohibited, and the stated penalty is that the code is deactivated.
Two live pages currently describe two different programs. An older page still sitting on a development path describes a Signature-only structure with no $50 vault tier at all. The referral agreement, last updated July 6, 2026, is the one to trust.

Is it worth your time?

If an Unchained vault was already on your list, yes, and it costs you nothing but the twenty seconds it takes to ask a client for a link. Your side of this is one of the cleanest here: automatic, no code to type, no qualifying trade. What earns the "worth it if" is everything around it: the reward only exists because you are buying a subscription that costs real money, the marketing page is half-finished, and an orphaned page describes a different deal. Buy the custody because you want the custody. Take the $50 as a tip.

If you become an Unchained client yourself, you can later refer others and earn $50 in account credit per funded vault or retirement account, or $250 if the person you sent becomes a Signature client. That credit is spent oldest-first as a coupon, capped per billing event, cannot be cashed out, expires eighteen months after it lands, and is forfeited in full if you cancel your subscription.
