Examined Oct 27, 2026 Card needed for the trial US residents 18 and over

Tiller is free for 30 days, then $99 a year on the card you entered to start.

Worth it ifyou keep your budget in a spreadsheet, or would like to, and you bank in the US. The 30 days cost nothing if you cancel inside them. After the $99 charge, money comes back only if you email within 30 days of paying.

The pricing page: “Your card isn’t charged until the end of your free trial.” The FAQ: “Your trial subscription isn’t limited or throttled in any way.” The one price is $99 a year, shown in the FAQ as $8.25 a month; we found no monthly plan and no discount code. The refer-a-friend page says: “Tiller’s Refer a Friend Program is currently closed to new signups.”

What you actually get

Your bank data in your own spreadsheet. In Tiller's words: “Tiller automatically pulls your bank transactions and balances into a Google Sheet or Excel spreadsheet every day.” Accounts connect through Yodlee and Plaid, with up to five spreadsheets.

Categories, templates and a morning email. AutoCat offers “Powerful auto-categorization based on your custom rules”. The Foundation Template covers budgets, cash flow and net worth, and the FAQ lists free community templates and a daily email summarizing your latest finances.

No ads, and a stated privacy promise. The FAQ: “Tiller is solely funded by your subscription. Unlike many personal finance services, Tiller does not sell your data to advertisers or third parties.” The security page says the team is blind to customer transactions, data is encrypted with 256-bit AES, and access is read-only: “Tiller cannot move, transfer, or invest money.”

The spreadsheets stay yours. If you cancel, they remain in your Google Drive, OneDrive or computer. Support is a US-based team by email and chat, with no phone support.

Day 30 is a charge for a whole year. If the trial ends without a cancellation, the card is charged $99 plus any sales tax, and from then on a cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid year. A full refund needs an email to billing@tiller.com within 30 days of payment, and the help article says: “Refunds are not automatically processed”.

The pricing page: “Guaranteed. Try Tiller free for 30 days, then get another 30 days backed by a full refund. That’s up to 60 days risk-free.” The second 30 days is the refund window after the first charge, and you have to ask.

Do this, in this order

  1. Choose Google Sheets unless you already pay for Microsoft 365. On Sheets, Tiller says: “It requires no additional subscription, works in any browser, and has the most Tiller features available today.” On Excel: “The Tiller Excel add-in requires an active Microsoft 365 subscription”.
  2. Check that you fit. The Terms serve people 18 and over who reside in the United States. Tiller supports US-based banks; UK and EU banks cannot connect, and insurance, bill pay and utilities accounts are not pulled in.
  3. Sign up with a Google or Microsoft account, enter a card, and connect every bank in week one. The FAQ says testing in the trial is the best way to know whether your bank works.
  4. Decide before day 30. In the Tiller Console, open the menu under your name, click Subscription, then Cancel subscription. A help article: “If you cancel during your trial you will not be billed and still receive 30 days of free access.”
  5. Charged and changed your mind? Email within 30 days. Write to billing@tiller.com with the invoice number, the card brand and last 4 digits, the charge date and the billing address, and say if you want the account closed too. Refunds usually take 5 to 10 business days.
If you cancel during your 30 day free trial, the cancelation takes effect at the end of your trial, otherwise it will take effect 365 days after your last payment date.
From Tiller’s help article on canceling. Read Oct 27, 2026.

The same article says that when you click cancel, “your subscription is set to cancel at the end of your current billing period”. The 365 days run from your last payment, and the feed runs until then. Bank links stay connected afterwards; to disconnect at once, contact support.

Where Tiller's own pages differ

The billing rules are not in the contract. The Terms of Service, marked “Updated October 16, 2020”, hold no clause on price, trial, refund or cancellation. Those rules live on the pricing page, the FAQ and help articles. No page we read says plainly that the yearly plan renews automatically, or states a renewal price; the refund article only has a heading for auto-renewed subscriptions.

Cancel anytime, within limits. The pricing page says “Easily cancel anytime.” Inside the trial that means no charge; after the first charge it means the end of the paid year.

Deletion, described three ways. The after-cancel article deletes your account and bank data 30 days after the cancellation takes effect, which can be 395 days after a payment (365 plus 30). The security page handles deletion on request: “Data deletion requests are confirmed within 24 hours.” The privacy policy: “If you cancel your account we will delete your personal financial and transaction data.” It gives no time. If you want the data gone, ask.

Bank counts and the student plan. Four Tiller pages give four counts of supported institutions, so we print none. Free for Students still needs a payment method, Tiller checks student status using information that includes LinkedIn and may revoke the discount at any time, and the page states no length.

Aggregated data. The privacy policy, dated May 2019: “Aggregate information belongs to Tiller, and is not subject to this Privacy Policy.” It says that information does not identify particular users. The security page: “Your transactions and balances aren’t statistically aggregated by Tiller or third parties.” Read both before you connect a bank.

Start the 30-day trial on Tiller's siteYou enter a card; Tiller charges $99 plus any sales tax when the 30 days end unless you cancel.

Is it worth your time?

For someone who budgets in a spreadsheet, the trial is a fair test: 30 full days of real bank feeds, no feature limits, and no charge if you leave in time. What you build stays in your own account if you go. If you want an app that does the budgeting for you, look at the alternatives below. Either way, set a reminder for day 25.
