Rocket Money's referral pays you nothing, and its own terms cannot agree whether the offer ended last December or ends this one.
The Offer Terms address the existing member, and their only sentence about the person being referred is a condition, not a reward. What a new member gets, link or not, is the standard trial: “New Premium members get a 7-day free trial to explore all the added benefits.”
What pays what
| You, signing up through a friend's referral link | Nothing extra |
|---|---|
| You, as any new Premium member, link or not | 7-day free trial |
| Anyone who has ever held a Rocket Money account, or was referred by someone else | Cannot be referred |
Rocket Money publishes no Premium price. The Terms of Service, effective 06/29/2026, say: “You may choose the price you pay for Rocket Money Premium Services, with no change in service or functionality in premium features or services.”
Do this, in this order
- Decide whether you want Rocket Money on its own merits. The free plan covers subscription tracking, budgeting and bill reminders; Premium adds cancellations done for you, custom categories and goals. Nothing about the referral changes what you pay.
- If you use a friend's link anyway, do three things in order. Sign up through their unique link, opt into a Premium membership within the first 24 hours of creating the account, and pay the first Premium charge successfully within the first 30 days. Miss the 24-hour window and the referral does not count.
- Pick your price knowing tax is added. The Terms of Service say that since December 1, 2023 the price you select excludes applicable taxes. After the 7-day trial, the subscription continues at the price you selected during signup.
- Before you let Rocket Money negotiate a bill, choose the fee. “The current Negotiation Fee is decided by the user, anywhere between 35-60% of the 12-month savings achieved as a result of the negotiation.” The terms' example: a 40% fee on a bill lowered by $10 a month is $120 of savings and a $48 fee, charged to your card and non-refundable except for an error. Only Premium+ members pay no fee. Any early cancellation fee from the provider is yours, not Rocket Money's.
Where Rocket Money's own pages disagree
This offer is valid through December 31, 2025. To qualify toward this Referral Bonus, all referrals must be submitted by December 31, 2025.
Three statements of the end date, two answers. The header of the terms page: “Offer valid through December 31, 2026”. The help article, under Offer Valid Through: December 31, 2026. The End Date clause quoted above: December 31, 2025. The document was last updated 02/03/2026, after the earlier date had passed. We print both and take neither side.
Who the program is for. The terms make the referred person's status a condition only: “New User: The referred individual must be a net new user of Rocket Money to be eligible for the referral. Existing users do not qualify.” No sentence in either document gives that person anything.
What can be taken back. “Rocket reserves the right to suspend, cancel, terminate or modify this program, these terms and conditions and/or any offers made through this Referral Program at any time at our sole discretion.” A bonus can be forfeited for any violation or abuse. The service is for users in the United States, aged 18 or over.
Is it worth your time?
If a friend uses Rocket Money and you were going to try it, use their link if you like: it costs you nothing, and your own trial and price are the same either way.
Think twice if the referral is what brought you here, or if the plan is to have Rocket Money negotiate your bills. The referral gives you nothing, and Bill Negotiation outside Premium+ takes 35% to 60% of a year's savings up front, non-refundable. Read the fee example before you tap the button, and check both end dates.
