Examined Oct 2, 2026 No bonus, no referral reward U.S. audience only

Credit Karma pays nothing to join and nothing for a referral: the free credit scores are the whole offer, and the costs sit in the Checking account's footnotes.

Think twicebefore spending an evening hunting for a Credit Karma referral code or sign-up bonus, because Credit Karma's own pages hold neither. The free scores, reports and monitoring cost nothing and can be dropped at any time. The Checking account is a separate decision: no monthly fee, but a $2.50 out-of-network ATM fee, a $2 fee for an instant Paycheck Advance, and a footnote that lets an account negative for 60 calendar days or more be closed.

Credit Karma's Terms of Service, effective May 4, 2026, open with what the service is: “We provide you with free credit reports and scores from one or more of the major credit bureaus, along with free credit monitoring and ID monitoring.” No sign-up bonus, statement credit or referral reward appears in those terms, on the Checking page or on the homepage. The terms add that Credit Karma provides scores, reports and monitoring at no cost to you, and that you may deactivate your membership at any time without penalty or obligation.

The Checking account's overdraft safety net can close the account. The Checking page markets Overdraft Coverage of up to $200 as fee-free. Its footnote calls the coverage discretionary, meaning Credit Karma may, but is not required to, pay a transaction that would have declined, and then says: “If your Checking account has a negative balance for 60 calendar days or more, it may be closed.” Your next deposit is applied to the negative balance automatically, and the coverage does not apply to internal or external transfers.

The Terms of Service draw the same line for credit: “Credit Karma is not a credit repair organization, credit counselor, or financial or legal advisor, or any similar enterprise as those may be defined under federal or state law.” The same section says it makes no guarantees on credit improvement.

Do this, in this order

  1. Stop looking for a code. There is no referral program on Credit Karma's pages. A creditkarma.com address that search engines surface as an answer to whether one exists resolves to the ordinary homepage, whose footer lists About Credit Karma, Careers, In The News and Vendor Programs, and no refer-a-friend link. Anyone offering you a Credit Karma referral code is offering something Credit Karma does not publish.
  2. Register only if you meet the certifications. By registering you certify that you are 18 or older, that you have a valid U.S. Social Security number, that what you provide is true and current, and that you are registering only for yourself. The terms say the services are meant for a U.S. audience, with separate sites for Canada and the United Kingdom.
  3. Treat Checking as its own decision. Opening an account needs the same three things: at least 18, a valid Social Security number, a U.S. home address. The early paycheck, Overdraft Coverage and Paycheck Advance perks need a single Qualified Direct Deposit of at least $200 every 35 days, and the footnote is strict about what counts: “Person-to-person (P2P) transfers (such as through Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp), transfers from one account to another or from other financial institutions, cash deposits, merchant refunds, one time credits, and Instant Transfers (including Instant Transfers for Earned Wage Access) are not considered Qualified Direct Deposits.”
  4. Price a Paycheck Advance before you take one. Limits run from $20 to $500, the account must have been open at least 30 days with a $200 Qualified Direct Deposit in the prior 35 days, and the advance is repaid from your next Qualified Direct Deposit. Standard delivery is free, with funding in 1 to 2 business days. The footnote on the faster option: “Instant Access is optional for a $2 fee and may take up to an hour.” You must live in a state where the service is offered.
  5. Expect the service to change. The terms say: “We reserve the right in our sole and absolute discretion to make changes to how we operate and provide our Services, including adding new services, modifying existing services, or suspending, discontinuing, or terminating your access to any or all portions of our Services.” Immaterial changes to the terms take effect when published.

What Credit Karma does not publish

Any referral or sign-up reward. The Terms of Service list the services as free credit scores and reports, access to partner product offers, insights and education, and community advice. There is no incentive to end, so there is no end date. Third-party pages describe Credit Karma referral codes; we found nothing on Credit Karma's own site to back them.

A current savings rate. The Checking page advertises a 2.60% Annual Percentage Yield on Credit Karma Savings, with a footnote that the rate is current as of 11/26/2025, is variable and may change, and that a maximum of 6 withdrawals per monthly statement cycle may apply.

Who bears the out-of-network ATM cost. Credit Karma's $2.50 fee is waived with monthly Qualified Direct Deposits of at least $200, but the page says other fees may be charged by the ATM provider, and it does not say how much. The 1% fee on foreign-currency purchases is charged by Visa, not by Credit Karma, in the page's words.

How long an advance decision stands. The Paycheck Advance footnote says limits and eligibility are evaluated frequently and may change at any time, and that the advance is not a loan. Nothing on the page says how an eligible member becomes ineligible.

Read Credit Karma's Terms of ServiceThe free-service clause, the four certifications and the not-an-advisor line are all there.
Read the Checking pageThe fees and the 60-day rule are in its footnotes; the homepage has no referral link.

Is it worth your time?

As a bonus hunt, no, because there is nothing to hunt. Credit Karma's own documents describe a free service and nothing more: no cash for joining, no reward for a referral, no code to enter. If someone hands you a Credit Karma referral link, the only thing it can do is take you to a site you could reach yourself. The free scores and monitoring are what they say they are, at no cost, and you may deactivate at any time.

The Checking account deserves its own decision. It has no monthly fee and a $0 opening balance, and its perks turn on a $200 Qualified Direct Deposit every 35 days that person-to-person transfers do not satisfy. Read the footnotes before you rely on the overdraft coverage: it is discretionary, and 60 calendar days in the negative can end the account.
