The bonus is quoted to you in SB, so the conversion matters more than the headline. SB are Swagbucks’ own points, and the live rewards store settles the rate: a $25 Amazon card costs 2,500 SB, a $50 card costs 5,000 SB, a $5 gift card costs 500 SB. So 1 SB is one cent, every time. Hold that number next to any bonus you are shown, because a "1,000 SB welcome bonus" is $10, and a "300 SB" one is three dollars.

Do this, in this order
- Convert the bonus to dollars before you decide it is worth your afternoon. Divide the SB figure by 100. That is your bonus in dollars. Swagbucks quotes rewards in points precisely because 1,000 sounds better than ten dollars.
- Take the number shown at signup as the only real one. The rules name no amount and never have. Screenshot what you are offered; if it does not arrive you will have nothing else to point at. Once you qualify, the rules do promise speed: you "should see the Rewards Bonuses in your accounts within three (3) days."
- Watch the 30-day clock. The target moves by campaign, the window does not.
- Understand what the 10% actually is, and what it is not. The referrer gets 10% of the friend’s SB earnings, paid on top, taken out of nobody’s balance. There is no stated cap. But it excludes signup and join bonuses, survey profiler SB, courtesy credit, Swag Codes, bought SB, daily goal bonuses, sweepstakes and contest winnings, and your friend’s own referral earnings. Swagbucks can also add exclusions "in our sole and absolute discretion."
- Keep earning yourself, or the 10% dies quietly. The 10% runs only "for as long as both you and your referral’s Swagbucks accounts remain open," and an account stays open only with activity every 12 months: a login, at least 1 SB from your own direct activity, or a redemption. The rules add: "You may not meet ‘direct activity’ standards by passively receiving Referral Rewards." Collect nothing but referral income and Swagbucks counts you as inactive, though it does promise an email warning first.
- Never push your link with ads or redirects. Paid search ads, domain redirects, contextual tiles, pop-unders and link injections are expressly prohibited. Any referrals that come in that way "will not earn any Referral Rewards or Rewards Bonuses," and it can end the account entirely.
- One account per person, and no hiding where you are. Prodege, which owns Swagbucks, allows "only one Account per person in each Rewards Program" and bans VPNs, proxies, single-use mobile numbers and fake ID documents. Some countries and territories are excluded outright. If a referral does not attach at signup, it is gone: "We cannot manually add referrals to your account if that occurs."
Getting the points back out
There is no published minimum redemption threshold. We could not find one stated on any Swagbucks page we could read. In practice the floor is the cheapest thing in the catalogue, and the cheapest we saw live was a $5 gift card at 500 SB.
Gift cards or PayPal cash. Both are in the live catalogue. PayPal is the one to pick if you want money rather than store credit.
The bonus may not exist everywhere. Swagbucks operates in a number of countries and the Rewards Bonus is widely reported as not being offered in all of them. We could not confirm that from a Swagbucks-owned page, so treat it as a question for signup, not a fact.
The rules are two and a half years old. The Referral Program Rules were last updated January 15, 2024, and the Prodege Terms of Use took effect September 1, 2025. Neither commits to a bonus figure.
Is it worth your time?
Swagbucks is not a bonus play, it is a habit. The signup reward is a lottery ticket with the prize hidden until you scratch it, and even a generous-sounding 1,000 SB is ten dollars for filling in surveys. What is genuinely good here is the 10%: it is uncapped, it costs your friend nothing, and if you refer a few people who really use the site it compounds in the background for years. But you have to keep earning SB yourself, because sitting back and collecting referral income is expressly not enough to keep your account open. If you want a clean dollar figure you can count before you start, look at the money apps that pay in cash.
