All offers / Money apps / Monarch Money
A Monarch referral link is 50% off year one. Monarch’s own public code is 30%, and you cannot use both.
The gap between Monarch’s two discounts is twenty percentage points. Its referral page says "Someone thinks you’ll love Monarch. Get 50% off your first year of a Core Subscription." A banner across the rest of the site offers "Get 30% OFF your first year with code WELCOME". The link wins, and its fine print says the discount "cannot be combined with other offers," so these are alternatives, not layers.
- Through a subscriber’s referral link, annual Core, paid on the web50% off year one
- With the WELCOME code Monarch shows everyone30% off year one
Both cover the first year only, and Monarch’s fine print says the discount cannot be combined with other offers.
The whole offer turns on one sentence, and it is about your phone. It is the asterisked note printed under Monarch’s referral offer.
Quoted from Monarch
“Discount offer is for new users only and cannot be combined with other offers. Valid for annual Core plan only. Redeemable on web checkout only; not redeemable on the Monarch mobile app. The code may expire or be deactivated at any time.”
What pays what
| You, new user, through a subscriber’s link, annual Core, paid on the web | 50% off year one |
|---|---|
| You, with Monarch’s own public WELCOME code, no link needed | 30% off year one |
| Both together | Cannot be combined |
| You, subscribing inside the iOS or Android app | Not redeemable |
| You, on monthly billing rather than annual Core | Not valid |
| Anyone who has had a Monarch account before | New users only |
| Anyone living outside the United States or Canada | Not eligible |
| The subscriber whose link you used | A gift card, amount unpublished |
| That subscriber’s ceiling, per calendar year | $480 |
| This site, for writing this page | Nothing |
Monarch is not hiding the 30%: the WELCOME banner sits on its referral page, its referral terms, its press room, its own promo-codes page and the landing page it sends paid traffic to.
Monarch keeps a page titled "Official Monarch Promo Codes" at monarch.com/promo-codes, and we could not read it, because its body is drawn by the browser, not served as text. Open it yourself before you pay.
The reward Monarch refuses to price
Monarch publishes the ceiling on what a referrer can earn and does not publish what a single referral is worth.
The terms admit it outright. Section 3.1 of the Referral Program Terms, effective June 30th, 2026, gives the referrer "a set reward to be determined solely by Monarch for every Valid Referral (the ‘Payout(s)’), subject to the annual reward cap ($480 for the calendar year)." Referrals past the cap "do not carry over to the following year," and the count resets each January 1.
The help centre does not fill the gap. Monarch’s support article on referral rewards, last edited June 8, 2026, says only: "Earn a gift card for every paying user you refer... You may earn up to $480 in gift cards per year."
The only numbers Monarch prints are the dead ones. Before April 29, 2025: "$14.99 in credits for every paying user you refer," with no limit. From April 29 to September 15, 2025: "$50 gift card for every paying user you refer," capped at $500 a year.
A current figure is circulating and we are not repeating it. It sits on coupon and review pages and on no Monarch page we could read.
Monarch’s two documents disagree about the Plus plan
Monarch’s help centre, edited June 8, 2026, says the reward lands when your friend connects an account and pays for "an annual Core or annual Plus subscription." Its Referral Program Terms, effective June 30, 2026, say the friend must "Subscribe to Monarch’s Core annual plan through web billing (monthly, trial, Plus or professional sponsored plans do not qualify)."
Both pages are live today, they contradict each other on a plan name, and the terms are twenty-two days newer, which in a dispute is the version that tends to win. Take the strict reading: point your friend at annual Core, bought on the website, and if they prefer Plus, warn them the reward may not exist.
Do this, in this order
- Decide you want a paid budgeting app before you go near a discount. This is a subscription, the offer is 50% off your first year, and year two arrives at the ordinary price. Half off a tool you abandon in March is not a saving, it is a smaller mistake.
- Ask a person, not a website, for the link. Monarch issues referral links to its own paying or trialing subscribers: "one unique link for your household," in the help centre’s words. The only way to get one is to know somebody who pays for Monarch.
- If you cannot find a link, take the public code and stop hunting. WELCOME is 30% off year one, shown by Monarch to everyone. Twenty points is worth one text message to a friend, not an afternoon of coupon sites.
- Open the link on a computer and pay on the web. The discount is "redeemable on web checkout only" and "not redeemable on the Monarch mobile app." Subscribe in the browser, then install the app and sign in.
- Pick annual Core, and do not try to stack anything. The offer is "valid for annual Core plan only," for "new users only," and it "cannot be combined with other offers." Do not layer the code on the link, and do not expect a monthly or Plus plan to carry it.
- Connect one financial account and stay 30 days, for your friend’s sake. The new subscriber must connect at least one financial account and "remain on a paid Monarch Core annual subscription for at least 30 days without refunds or chargebacks." Refund in week two and they get nothing.
If you are the one sharing the link, read this part twice
You can send the link, watch your friend subscribe, watch them stay, and still end up with nothing.
You have to still be paying on the day the money lands. You must be "a paid or trialing Monarch user at the time of referral" and hold "an active Monarch subscription regardless of the payment platform, at the time of receiving the Payout." That payout arrives roughly thirty days after your friend subscribes; cancel in the window and you forfeit a reward you have already earned.
Take a refund and you are out. "Referrers who have received a refund on their subscription fee are ineligible." Both sides must live in the United States or Canada, and members of the Monarch For Professionals Program are excluded outright.
Strangers can get you banned, permanently, with no explanation. The fraud section names "self-referrals or attempts to create multiple accounts" and "a high number of the Referrer’s referees initiating refunds, disputes, or chargebacks." Trip it and you "will be permanently disqualified from participating in the Program" and "will not receive further details regarding the decision-making process," with decisions "final and not subject to appeal." The help centre invites you to share your link "anywhere"; post it publicly and strangers you cannot vet can end your participation.
Monarch can bill you for a reward you have already spent. This clause lives in the main terms, not the referral ones. If Monarch decides either side is "attempting to obtain unfair advantage or otherwise violate the terms or spirit" of the offer, it may "revoke any rewards or incentives issued" and "charge the Referrer or Referee for any rewards or incentives (1) used by Referrer or Referee prior to such revocation." The same section lets Monarch revoke an offer "for any reason or for no reason whatsoever."
It pays as a third-party gift card, and Monarch’s duty ends when the email leaves. Monarch "partners with Tremendous to process and distribute referral Payouts," treats "the date Monarch sends the initial reward email" as the payout date, and after that "does not have further responsibility for issues occurring on Tremendous’s platform." Watch for that email, spam folder included, and redeem it promptly.
Old credits stay old, tax is yours, and the program can end mid-sentence. Credits earned before April 28, 2025 "remain valid and will be applied to subscription renewal payments," and Monarch "will not convert legacy referral credits into cash payouts." Taxes are "solely your responsibility." Monarch may "modify the Program’s terms, eligibility criteria, or payout structure at any time" and "suspend or terminate the Program without prior notice."
Why this page has no Monarch link for you
Two rails, and only one can pay a website. The rail worth 50% is the customer referral program, whose links belong to individual paying subscribers, so no publisher can hold one. The other is an affiliate program, which pays a website a commission and gives you nothing extra by design. We looked for it on Monarch’s own site and found no program page at all: monarch.com/landing/affiliate-partners carries no commission rate, no cookie window and no terms, and the footer’s partnerships link is an enquiry form.
The 50% is attached to a subscriber’s referral link and "cannot be combined with other offers," so a reader arriving on a publisher’s affiliate link would most likely be looking at the public 30% instead. Monetising this page would cost you twenty points of year one, so we are declining it.
Is it worth your time?
As a discount, yes. The twenty-point gap costs the effort of asking one friend who already pays for the app. Do it on a computer, on the annual Core plan, as a genuinely new user, and you have taken the best price Monarch offers. Remember that the discount covers one year and the second year is the real decision.
Sharing Monarch is a worse deal than clicking it: you recruit people for an amount Monarch reserves the right not to publish, you must still be paying on the day the gift card arrives or you lose it, chargebacks by strangers can disqualify you permanently with no explanation and no appeal, and Monarch may charge you for a reward you have already spent.
