NordVPN's discount code is real. Nobody outside NordVPN will tell you how big it is.
There is no percentage on this page, because NordVPN’s help centre confirms the codes exist, then points to one page for every number attached to them, and each time we asked, that page returned a bot check instead of a document. What we could read is when you can get your money back, and what happens on the day it renews.

Three separate things get called a NordVPN referral. The affiliate program is the creator route. Refer a friend pays the existing customer. The student discount is not a referral at all, just a price offered to a group.
The reader half, in NordVPN’s own words
Clicking does not buy anything, and nothing needs typing. NordVPN states: "You will not be instantly charged when clicking on a NordVPN sponsorship link. The link will forward you to a Nord Checkout page with a special sponsorship code applied to finish your purchase." The checkout total is the only place the code’s value is ever visible.
NordVPN recommends the creator route itself. Its list of ways to pay less opens with "Affiliate coupon codes": "we recommend checking out if your favorite content creators are a part of our Affiliate Program, as they can provide you with special discount codes." There is also a typed-code field at checkout, and NordVPN notes it "provides discounts during certain events, such as on Black Friday and Cyber Monday".
Referring a friend pays you a month, and says nothing about them. The same list describes it as an opportunity where "you can receive a month of NordVPN services for free". That list also carries an "additional discount for students and apprentices who are 18-26 years old", size and required proof both unpublished.
The page we could not open
Every path we tried on nordvpn.com answered with a Cloudflare security check instead of the document: the affiliate page, the affiliate terms, the legal index, the sitemap and the pricing page.
We did not solve the check, and we struck the numbers we had. An earlier draft of this research carried a commission percentage on renewals, a payout minimum and a payment delay, all from a cached copy of the blocked page, so they are gone. And many programs forbid deal sites from carrying their links, exactly the rule those unread terms would contain. We report it as unknown rather than absent, which is why there is no NordVPN link on this page at all.
The refund clock, and why where you bought decides it
A VPN is sold on long prepaid terms.
Thirty days, from your first purchase, once. NordVPN offers "a 30-day money-back guarantee for new subscriptions". "The guarantee applies only to your initial subscription purchase. Once your subscription renews, it's no longer eligible for a refund under this policy," unless local laws require otherwise.
Buy in the Apple App Store and NordVPN cannot refund you. Its own words: "Subscriptions purchased via the Apple App Store are subject to Apple's refund policies. We're unable to issue refunds for payments made through the Apple App Store."
Google Play has two doors, and one shuts after 48 hours. Google Play refunds can be requested through NordVPN’s support provided they fall within the refund terms above, and if the payment was made within the last 48 hours you can request it directly from your Google Play account.
A bargain from a reseller is a different contract. NordVPN: "If you've purchased a subscription outside the NordVPN website (e.g., physical store, online shop, or marketplace like Best Buy or StackSocial), please contact the retailer directly regarding the refund." Amazon Appstore purchases go to Amazon the same way.
You cannot start a refund quietly. NordVPN’s instruction is to "contact our customer support team via live chat", after which support sends a link you open to verify it is you. Eligible payments do show a Refund button in your account, but the flow begins with a conversation and an identity check.
Auto-renew, and the price you have not been shown
It renews unless you stop it, at a price of its own. NordVPN states that "unless you cancel auto-renewal for your subscription, it will be renewed automatically", that you "will be charged the applicable renewal price", and that "the renewal price is subject to change, but you will be notified of any changes by email".
Turning it off happens where you bought it. "If you have purchased your subscription directly from NordVPN and wish for your subscription to no longer renew at the subsequent billing date, you may cancel your subscription via your Nord Account." Buy inside an app store and that is where you must cancel it.
Bundles renew separately. The same article says you follow the same steps to cancel NordPass, NordLocker, Dedicated IP or bundle services, so cancelling the VPN alone does not stop the rest. NordVPN also publishes a separate article titled "What is VAT, and why am I charged": the listed price and the amount leaving your account need not match.
The free trial that exists, and the one that does not
On the website there is none: "NordVPN does not offer a free trial for purchases made on its website, but we do provide our customers with a 30-day money-back guarantee to try out our services." On Android there is a real trial with an owner who is not NordVPN: available to those who download the app from Google Play, "organized by Google Play itself and follows its Terms of Service", and limited, because "we only allow one free trial per customer". If you used it on an old handset, it is spent.
Do this, in this order
- Decide where you are buying before you decide what you are buying. In the Apple App Store, NordVPN says it is unable to issue refunds; a retailer or marketplace purchase sends you back to the retailer. Buying direct keeps the guarantee, the cancellation switch and the refund conversation with NordVPN itself.
- If you follow a creator with a NordVPN link, use theirs. NordVPN says the link forwards you to a Nord Checkout page with the code already applied, and that clicking it does not charge you. Read the checkout total, with tax.
- If you are a student or apprentice aged 18 to 26, ask before you pay. NordVPN lists an additional discount for that group and publishes neither the size nor the proof it wants.
- Put two dates in your calendar the day you buy. Day 21, to force a decision while the guarantee is alive, and one week before renewal.
- Test it on what you actually use, inside the thirty days. Your home network, your work laptop, the streaming apps you care about. A refund needs live chat plus an identity check, so leave a few days.
- If you cancel auto-renew, cancel every product. In the Nord Account if you bought direct, in the app store if you did not, and repeat it for NordPass, NordLocker, a Dedicated IP or anything else in a bundle. And if you refer a friend, expect a month for yourself and promise them nothing.
Skip this offer if
You came for a specific percentage. There is a real code behind a creator link and no figure for it that we could read; the only honest route is to open a checkout and look.
You will not remember a renewal date. If reminders are not your strength, buy the shortest term rather than the cheapest per month.
You need this page to tell you what it costs. We verified no NordVPN price, because the pricing page is behind the same wall.
Is it worth your time?
Hunting the code is worth about two minutes, and only if you already follow someone who has one, because NordVPN attaches it to the link for you and no coupon site improves on that. What is worth your time is deciding where to buy, and two calendar entries. Buy direct and you keep a refund route to the company itself. Diarise day 21 and the week before renewal and you keep control of the second year.
