NordPass gives a new customer a free plan on one device and a 30-day guarantee on a first purchase, then charges each renewal 14 days early with no refund for a customer in the United States.
The pricing page describes the Free plan as “Only essential features” with “No credit card required”. Its comparison marks access on multiple devices, Password Health, the Data Breach Scanner, the authenticator and file attachments as not included. Premium adds all but the authenticator, for one user; Family covers six user accounts. Both paid plans show a “30-day money-back guarantee”. We cannot tell you their price: every price on the page we saved rendered as a placeholder, so the figure to trust is the one at checkout.
What pays what
| Anyone 18 or over creating a free account | The Free plan, one user, one device, no card, no end date |
|---|---|
| A first-time buyer of Premium or Family, direct from NordPass, inside 30 days | A full refund on request |
| The same buyer after a renewal, in the United States | No refund under the terms |
| A buyer through the Apple App Store | No refund from NordPass; Apple's rules apply |
| A friend who tells you about NordPass | Nothing; no consumer referral program found |
NordPass also runs an affiliate program for websites and a separate business referral program for companies that buy NordPass Business. Nothing in either program reaches a person buying a personal plan.
Do this, in this order
- Take the free plan first, and keep the Recovery Key. The general terms say the services are for people who are “eighteen (18) or more years of age” and for personal, non-commercial use. The Additional Terms warn: “if you are using the Free Version and have forgotten your Master Password and lost the Recovery Key, there is no way to recover the items stored within your NordPass vault”.
- If you pay, buy on nordpass.com, not through an app store. The general terms say: “This means that we cannot grant a refund if you made the purchase through the Apple App Store.” Google Play and reseller purchases follow that provider's terms.
- Decide inside 30 days of the first purchase. The subscription terms say: “please terminate the Services contract and request a refund within thirty (30) days of your initial purchase of our Services”. Any discount you were shown is for the initial period only: “you will be charged the renewal price valid at the time of your renewal”.
- Put the renewal charge date in your calendar, not the expiry date. “All other plans: Charged fourteen (14) days prior to the start of the Renewal Period.” Monthly plans are charged on the renewal day itself, and a plan of a year or longer renews for a year at a time. Cancelling “will stop future charges, but it does not automatically entitle you to a refund of (i) any fees that you have already paid or (ii) any remaining period of your current Subscription, unless the applicable law provides otherwise”.
- Do not be surprised by a small charge weeks before renewal. The subscription terms say: “By purchasing a Subscription, you authorize Nord to initiate an authorization transaction equal to zero (or a nominal amount not exceeding 1 USD/1 EUR or an equivalent in another currency, which is then instantaneously reverted) up to forty (40) days prior to the Subscription renewal date.” It is a card check, not a fee, but it can be the first sign that a renewal is coming.
A Subscription for a period longer than one (1) month that has been renewed and purchased in Germany, Netherlands, or the United Kingdom, is eligible for either: (i) a full refund, if the refund request is made within thirty (30) days of being charged for automatic renewal; or (ii) a pro rata (partial) refund for the period left in your renewed Subscription (beginning the month after you request the refund), if the aforementioned thirty (30) days term has passed.
What NordPass does not publish
A referral reward for customers. Other sites advertise one. The address nordpass.com/refer-a-friend/ exists, but on September 25, 2026 it showed the ordinary marketing and pricing page with no referral mechanic, and no NordPass terms document we read describes one. The two programs it does publish, for websites and for business customers, pay nothing to you.
A price we could read. The pricing page states “Payments are charged in USD” and “Displayed prices do not include VAT”, but the prices themselves did not render in the page text we saved. We print none rather than guess.
A single contract. Three documents govern a personal account: the General Terms of Service, “Last Updated: August 9, 2026”; the Subscription Terms, “Last Updated: February 15, 2026”; and the NordPass Additional Terms, “Last updated: September 29, 2025”. The last adds a rule for the idle: an account inactive for thirty-six months is treated as dormant, and “We reserve the right to delete such accounts, along with any encrypted data stored in NordPass Vault”.
Is it worth your time?
For a free vault on one device, yes: no card, no trial clock, no code to hunt for. Keep the Recovery Key somewhere safe, because on the free plan it is the only way back in, and log in once in a while so the account is not treated as dormant.
For a paid plan, buy direct, judge it inside 30 days, and write down the date 14 days before your term ends, because that is when the renewal is charged and after that NordPass's terms give a US customer nothing back. A website offering you a NordPass referral bonus is offering something NordPass does not publish; you are paid nothing.
