All offers / Money apps / Greenlight
Greenlight's $50 window shut on August 5, 2026. The referral programme did not shut with it, and we cannot tell you what it pays now.
This is a withdrawn figure, not a dead programme, and the difference matters. Greenlight is still referring friends. What we have lost is the paperwork that told us the amount.
What pays what
| You, joining through a friend's link today | Whatever that link says. We cannot source it |
|---|---|
| You, had you joined between Jul 22 and Aug 5, 2026 | $50, under the boosted terms |
| A link found on a deal site, coupon site or bulk email | Forfeited entirely |
| Closing the account before 35 days, or before one monthly fee is paid | $0 |
| Anyone who already has, or has ever been referred to, Greenlight | $0 |
The joining side's figure is a moving target, and this is the clearest demonstration of it we have. On July 27 Greenlight had live pages advertising $50, $30, and a variant offering $75 for choosing the Family Shield plan or $30 for any other plan, all at the same time. The reward is whatever was advertised at the moment they shared the link with you. So any flat Greenlight number, ours included, is only true with a date stapled to it, and the date on ours ran out on August 5.
What it costs
Greenlight is a monthly subscription for a family, and the referral reward has to be measured against the fee. These are Greenlight's own published fees, updated April 1, 2026.
| Core, per family, up to five kids | $5.99 a month |
|---|---|
| Max, per family, up to five kids | $10.98 a month |
| Infinity, per family, up to five kids | $15.98 a month |
| Family Shield, up to five kids and two supported adults | $19.98 a month |
| ATM withdrawals, and the first card replacement each year | $0 |
| Later card replacements, per card | $5.99 |
| Custom card, optional | $9.99 |
| Express card delivery, optional, maximum | $24.99 |
Do this, in this order
- Get the link from a person, not from a website. A link handed to you privately by a friend, or posted on their own social media profile, is fine. A link scraped from a deal site, coupon board or mass email forfeits the reward entirely, even after it has been paid.
- Do not go looking for the $50 promotion. It is over. The boosted rewards ran from July 22, 2026 to August 5, 2026, and the account had to be completed by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 5. You are now back to whatever the standing campaign pays, and Greenlight does not publish that figure in one place.
- Confirm the amount your specific link advertises. This is now the whole job. If your link says $30, you are getting $30, whatever any article says, this one included. With the dated terms expired, the link in your hand is the most reliable statement of the offer that exists.
- Pick the plan you actually want before you sign up. The fee is charged per family, not per child, and the gap between Core and Family Shield is $14 a month, which over a year is more than three times what the boosted promotion paid. One variant of that promo paid more for choosing the most expensive plan, which is the wrong reason to choose it, and any successor offer that does the same deserves the same suspicion.
- Plan for 35 days, not 30. Greenlight's marketing FAQ says the reward typically arrives after 30 days; the binding referral terms say the referred customer must hold the account for not less than 35 calendar days and pay at least one monthly fee. Do not cancel on day 31.
- Know where the refund window sits. The first monthly fee is billed seven days after registration. To get that first fee refunded you have to request account closure on or before the day immediately preceding your first billing date. Closing inside that window also means you never pay a monthly fee, and paying one is a condition of the reward, so you cannot have both.
- Expect the money in the parent's wallet. Rewards are credited to the primary account, not to a child's card. Even a reward a teen earned lands in the parent wallet and only moves to the teen if the parent sends it. Greenlight can also delay a reward while it investigates.
The fine print that can still cost you the reward
Who is excluded. The promotion is open to legal residents of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, excluding Puerto Rico and all US territories and possessions; the January 2026 promotion excluded Washington State and this one does not. Referrers must be 18 or older, or older still where their state sets a higher age of majority, nobody under 13 can make a referral or receive a reward, and Greenlight employees and those of its subsidiaries, affiliates and advertising agencies are out.
Three separate ways of being too late. The person joining must never have entered into an agreement with Greenlight, never have opened a Greenlight account, and never have been referred or introduced to Greenlight or its issuing bank by another customer or an affiliate partner. That last one catches people who clicked someone's link months ago and did nothing with it. No self-referrals, no duplicate or fictitious accounts, and one promotion link per signup.
Overpayments come back out. Greenlight can reclaim an overpayment at any time by deducting it from the primary account, states that, unless it says otherwise, referral rewards have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash, and can terminate referral programs at any time without prior notice.
If it goes wrong, the ceiling on Greenlight's liability is $100, and the terms are governed by Georgia law.
One warning about Greenlight's own pages, and it is the reason for the caution at the top. On July 27 Greenlight's January 2026 promotion page was rendering a July 2026 header over a January body, complete with the old Washington exclusion and a $45 figure. A company whose promotion pages outlive their promotions is a company whose footer link cannot be read as this month's price. Whichever dated terms page your own link points at is the one that governs you, so open that one.
Is it worth your time?
For a family that has already decided it wants a debit card and chore-and-allowance tracking for the kids, the answer has not really changed, because the bonus was never what made this good or bad. The work is the same as it was: ask someone you know for their link, read the figure printed on it, and do not cancel before day 35. What has changed is that we can no longer tell you in advance what that figure will be, so treat any article quoting a Greenlight number, including the $50 this page led with until August 5, as history. If a free teen account with no monthly fee would do the job, start there instead.
If you already subscribe and want to send your own link to friends, the boosted window paid $50 for the first friend who joined and $150 for the second, up to $200, and that window has closed. The standing terms, which are not dated to a promotion, still cap any one person at $600 of referral rewards a year.
