Calm's free trial is 7 days and then bills $79.99 for a full year, its terms want the cancellation a day before the end, and a member's Guest Pass turns the 7 days into 30.
Calm's plans page states the offer under the label “Limited Time Offer”: “7-Day Free Trial then $79.99 billed annually, cancel anytime”. It prints no end date. There is a longer trial that the plans page does not mention. Calm's help center says: “Calm's Guest Pass feature allows you to share a 30-day free trial of Calm Premium with friends and family.” Any Premium member can send one. Seven days against 30 is 23 more free days for asking a friend.
What pays what
| A new customer, signing up on the plans page with no invitation | 7 days free, then $79.99 a year |
|---|---|
| A person completely new to Calm, with a Guest Pass from a Premium member | 30 days free, then a yearly subscription |
| Anyone who subscribed before, or completed a Calm Premium trial before | No promotional offer |
| Forgetting to cancel in time | $79.99 charged at once |
$79.99 divided by twelve months is about $6.67 a month, but it is not charged that way: the annual plan is one upfront payment, plus applicable taxes. The Guest Pass article does not state the price a pass renews into; the terms say only the then-current price.
Do this, in this order
- Ask for a Guest Pass before you touch the 7-day trial. It is for first-timers only: “The recipient must be completely new to Calm. They cannot have an active subscription, and they must never have completed a free trial of Calm Premium in the past.” Finishing the 7-day trial rules out the 30-day one. Members send passes from the mobile app only, as many as they like; each person can redeem one.
- Check that the link gave you 30 days, not 7. The Guest Pass article warns: “If the link accidentally redirects you to a standard 7-day trial instead of the 30-day offer, try reopening the link using a desktop computer browser.” Check the length before you enter a card.
- Choose where you pay, because that decides who can refund you. On an iPhone or iPad the pass is redeemed through the App Store. On Android or the web you enter payment details on a web page. The refund policy treats the two differently: “If your subscription was purchased through Apple, Calm isn't able to process the refund directly.” Apple decides those requests alone. Calm.com and Google Play purchases go to Calm Support.
- Cancel on day one. The cancellation article says: “Once you cancel, you'll continue to have full Premium access until the end of your current billing or trial period.” Canceling early costs nothing and makes the 24-hour rule irrelevant. On Calm.com it is Settings, then Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription. An Apple or Google Play subscription is canceled with Apple or Google; the article says Calm cannot cancel subscriptions made through Apple.
- If you were charged, ask for the refund as a separate step. “Canceling stops future renewals, but it doesn't automatically issue a refund.” For a Calm.com purchase, log in and send the Refund Request Form within 30 days of purchase. Refunds usually arrive within 5 to 10 business days.
Where Calm's own pages disagree
You will not have the right to receive a refund for any amounts paid to us unless otherwise required by applicable law.
Refunds. That is the contract. The help center's refund policy opens differently: “Refunds are available within 30 days of your Calm.com purchase.” The cancellation article widens that slightly for someone charged after a trial: “Refunds are available only for Calm.com and Google Play purchases within 30 days.” So the 30-day refund is a practice Calm describes, not a right its terms grant. Use it quickly if you need it; do not plan around it.
The cancellation deadline. The terms say 24 hours before the period ends. The Guest Pass article says of recipients: “They will not be charged if they cancel before the 30 days are up.” The plans page says: “You can cancel your subscription at any time.” No help page we read repeats the 24 hours. Follow the stricter document.
What is never refunded. The refund policy ends with a list: “Lifetime memberships, gift cards of any length via Calm.com/Apple/Google Play, Calm Premium Family Plans, and Enterprise Plans are not eligible for a refund.” The plans page sells a lifetime membership, Calm for Life, billed once, right beside the free trial. The terms define that lifetime as the remaining lifetime of Calm Premium, not yours.
What Calm does not publish
An end date. The plans page calls the trial a limited time offer and gives no date. The terms say each promotional offer has its own Offer Terms; we found none beyond the plans page and the Guest Pass article. They add: “Calm reserves the right, in its discretion, to determine your Promotional Offer eligibility, and to modify or cancel a Promotional Offer at any time.”
Smaller things. The terms set a minimum age of 16, and send disputes to individual arbitration unless you opt out by email within thirty days of first agreeing to them. The help center has a separate refund article for a newer product it calls Calm Sleep, so check which Calm product a checkout page is selling you.
Is it worth your time?
As a free look at the app, yes, and it is easy to make safe: start the trial, cancel the same day, and keep using it until it runs out. If you know anyone who pays for Calm, ask for a Guest Pass first. It costs them nothing and gives you 30 days in place of 7. You get one first trial, so spend it on the longer one.
Think harder if you tend to let trials run. What follows is not a small monthly fee. It is $79.99 taken in one payment, and the Terms of Service say you have no right to get it back. The help center's 30-day refund must be requested, does not cover Apple purchases, and is not in the terms.
If you refer: a member who sends a pass gets nothing. The Guest Pass article says: “The Guest Pass Rewards program was officially discontinued as of September 2025.” A separate help article says: “Calm does not currently have an active affiliate program.”
