All offers / Crypto / BitBox
BitBox has no refer-a-friend program. The pages that say it does are running a template.
The affiliate terms state that the affiliate is entitled to the affiliate reward and shall have no claims to any additional compensation. One party is named and one payment is described, and a buyer appears in neither. BitBox is made by Shift Crypto AG in Zurich and sells a hardware wallet, a small device that keeps the keys to your crypto offline, so someone who breaks into your computer still cannot move your coins. The only thing BitBox sells that gets money to a friend is a gift card, which is exactly what it sounds like and is not a referral.
Where the money really goes
| You, the buyer, through any BitBox affiliate link | $0 |
|---|---|
| A promoter, headline rate | 12% |
| What that 12% is calculated on | The price after shipping and an average 20% VAT come out |
| Effective rate against what you actually pay | Roughly 10% |
| A promoter taking payment in shop vouchers instead of cash | Double, per the marketing page only |
| A referral where the buyer blocks cookies or clears the cache | $0 |
| Cookie window | 4 weeks, and the last click wins |
| This site, through any link on this page | Nothing |
VAT is the sales tax added in Switzerland, the EU, the UK and many other places. BitBox strips an average 20% of it out before calculating commission, and takes shipping out too, which is why 12% on the page is nearer 10% of the number on your receipt. The doubled voucher payout appears on BitBox’s marketing page and not in the terms document, so treat it as a marketing offer that could be withdrawn.
- The affiliate rate BitBox puts on its own marketing page12%
- That same rate measured against the price on your receipt, once shipping and an average 20% VAT are outRoughly 10%
The 12% is BitBox’s headline. The second bar is the same commission weighed against what a buyer actually pays.
The trap BitBox wrote down in advance
The terms pre-disclaim the failure, so it is your problem, not theirs. BitBox states that a sale cannot be tracked if a customer, their browser, or a browser extension disables cookies, disables JavaScript, or clears the browser cache before purchasing. That is a description of a privacy-conscious crypto user, which is precisely who buys a Swiss hardware wallet.
Four weeks, and the last click takes everything. The cookie expires four weeks after the most recent click, and where a buyer has followed links from more than one affiliate, only the most recent one is credited. A hardware wallet is a considered purchase people research for months.
What is genuinely good here, in fairness. The payout threshold is 50 EUR, the lowest cash threshold of any wallet program we examined this week, payouts are monthly and automatic, and you can take them by bank transfer, in Bitcoin, or in shop vouchers. There is no minimum order value. The terms carry a real effective date of April 14, 2025.
And the standard exposure. No paid advertising without written approval and no bidding on BitBox brand terms. Either side may end participation at any time, with or without cause, and a breach means immediate termination with unpaid commission forfeited. The public terms are the ones we read; BitBox runs its own affiliate portal behind a login, and whatever additional terms may live inside it we have not seen.
Do this, in this order
- Stop looking for a BitBox referral code. There is no in-app referral, no refer-a-friend, and no buyer discount attached to any partner link. The affiliate terms close the door on it explicitly.
- Do not trust the aggregator paragraph. The two-sided referral claim is boilerplate reused across brands. If a page tells you a BitBox link gets you a discount, that page has not read anything on bitbox.swiss.
- Buy from the official webshop. BitBox says this itself: buying from the official shop ensures authentic products directly from them, plus full warranty and support. It also publishes a list of authorised resellers and pickup partners if you want to buy in person. Third-party marketplace sellers have shipped tampered and already set up devices.
- If you do hold a promo code, know where the box is. BitBox states that promo codes can only be entered during the order summary step, before payment.
- Write the recovery phrase on paper and keep it off every screen. During setup the device gives you a recovery phrase, also called a seed phrase: the words that are the master key to everything on the wallet. Never type them into a phone or computer, never photograph them, and never tell them to anyone. No legitimate company will ever ask you for them.
- If you are considering promoting it, price in the tracking losses first. Twelve percent reads well until you take out shipping and 20% VAT and land near ten, then take out the referrals that never register. The 50 EUR automatic threshold and the doubled voucher option are real advantages, but do the arithmetic on the version where a decent slice of your genuine sales are invisible.
Is it worth your time?
As an offer, there is nothing to weigh: no buyer gets anything. As a purchase, judge the hardware and ignore the deal entirely. On the promoter side, BitBox dates its contract, pays automatically at a low threshold, and then tells you plainly that ad blockers will eat some of your commissions. A company selling privacy hardware, running an affiliate program that privacy tools break, and disclosing that fact in its own terms, is a small monument to something. If you want a wallet purchase that actually pays the buyer, Trezor gives new customers 10% off and Ledger pays both sides in Bitcoin through a friend’s in-app link.
