Airbnb’s guest referral program has been closed since 2020, and it still pays nothing.
A code copied out of a listicle today is a code for a programme Airbnb switched off in 2020 and never switched back on. Almost every page we read quoting an Airbnb referral number is describing that dead programme. There is a live Airbnb referral programme paying real cash, but it is a different programme, aimed at different people, and it puts nothing in a traveller’s pocket.

A live, separate Airbnb referral programme does exist, but it pays cash to an existing member for bringing Airbnb a brand new host, not travel credit to a guest. It has nothing to do with the dead programme above. More on it, briefly, below.
Do this, in this order
- Close the coupon tabs, if you are a traveller. The guest programme is shut, Airbnb says so on its own invite page, and no site can reopen it for you. What still moves the price of a stay is ordinary and unglamorous: the dates, and whether the host has set a weekly or monthly discount. Booking a week or a month often cuts the nightly rate by more than the old credit was ever worth.
- If you already hold an unused coupon, it still works. Airbnb's own invite page: a coupon sent before the shutdown can still be applied to any booking made before the coupon's own expiration date.
Is it worth your time?
As a traveller, no, and it has not been since October 2020. There is no Airbnb guest referral, no invite to collect, and no code any page can hand you, and the honest thing is to say so in one line rather than keep you scrolling. If you want a travel reward that still pays a guest, one sits just below, and we would rather send you there than dress this up.
Separately, if you are an existing Airbnb member, you can earn cash by referring someone who becomes a brand new host, not a guest: Airbnb's referral page lists $105 to $1,000 for a home host, $100 for a service host, and $50 for an experience host, capped at the first 25 referrals per category. It depends on a first booking large enough, made by someone who is not family or a friend sharing your address, in an eligible listing type and location, that nobody cancels before or after check-in, completed within 180 days of the referral link being used, and it forfeits your ability to earn Airbnb's other referral rewards for that same host. Read the host referral terms above before counting on any of it.
