Examined Oct 3, 2026 No referral program Blue tier earns 0% on Vrbo

Vrbo has no referral reward, and its One Key loyalty scheme starts every new member at a tier that earns nothing on Vrbo bookings.

Think twicebefore you join One Key expecting a reward for a Vrbo stay. The terms effective July 28, 2026 list Vrbo earn rates only for Silver, Gold and Platinum members, and you start at Blue. The credit you might later earn has no cash value, expires after 18 idle months, and dies with a deleted account. Vrbo itself offers a new customer nothing.

Nothingfor a new customer on Vrbo: no referral program, no first-booking bonus, and no Blue-tier earn rate in One Key's Vrbo table

Vrbo's help page says One Key members earn rewards when they book on Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. The terms are narrower. “You will enter the Program as a Blue tier Member and you must meet the stated criteria below to qualify for a higher tier.” On Vrbo, “Silver members earn 1% in OneKeyCash per $1 spent (excluding taxes and fees)”, and Gold and Platinum earn 2%. There is no Blue line, and the Vrbo definitions describe an eligible rental as one booked by a Silver, Gold, or Platinum Member. On Expedia and Hotels.com the same document says “earn 1% in OneKeyCash for Blue members, 2% in OneKeyCash for Silver and Gold members, and 3% for Platinum members per $1 spent (excluding taxes and fees)”.

Silver is the gate, and Vrbo stays do not open it as the terms read. Silver takes 5 Trip Elements in a calendar year, Gold 15 and Platinum 30. On Vrbo, a Trip Element is earned per completed night on an eligible rental or hotel of $25 or more, and eligible on Vrbo means booked by a Silver, Gold or Platinum member. Read literally, a Blue member's Vrbo stay earns neither OneKeyCash nor Trip Elements, so the way up runs through Expedia or Hotels.com bookings first. Vrbo publishes no plainer statement of this anywhere we could read.

OneKeyCash on a Vrbo rental moves from pending to available up to 35 days after the stay is completed. It cannot be earned on taxes and fees, and the terms say it “has no cash value, and may not be transferred to another Member or redeemed for cash under any circumstances”.

Do this, in this order

  1. Do not go looking for a Vrbo referral link. We searched vrbo.com and help.vrbo.com and found no consumer refer-a-friend program. Expedia Group's Travel Creator Program is an affiliate scheme for approved creators who share links and shops. It gives you nothing.
  2. If you join One Key, do it before you book and stay signed in. Membership is free and open to individuals aged at least 18, or the age of majority where they live. The terms say OneKeyCash and Trip Elements will not be earned for bookings made while you are not signed in, or if you create the account after booking.
  3. Earn your way to Silver somewhere other than Vrbo. Blue members earn 1% on Expedia and Hotels.com. Trip Elements collected from January 1 to December 31 count toward that year's tier, and Silver takes 5 of them.
  4. Read the listing's cancellation policy before paying. Each host chooses one policy per listing. Vrbo's options: Day-before, 100% refund 24 hours before check-in; Lenient, 5 days; Relaxed, 100% at 14 days and 50% at 7 to 14 days; Moderate, 100% at 30 days and 50% at 14 to 30 days; Firm, 100% at 60 days and 50% at 30 to 60 days; Strict, 100% at 60 days and no refund after that; and No refund, none at any time. Cancel by 11:59 p.m. in the property's time zone on the last day of the window.
  5. Do not count on the extenuating circumstances policy. Vrbo may apply it for large-scale disruptions, and then a guest may get a refund regardless of the listing's policy, but “Vrbo will determine, at its discretion, whether this policy applies, including the affected area and which disruptions and reservations fall within scope.”
  6. Use any balance inside 18 months, and never delete the account with money in it. Deleting the account loses all OneKeyCash, Trip Elements and tier status, with no reactivation.

Where Vrbo's pages disagree, and what was hard to read

The help page promises more than the terms deliver. The help page says members earn rewards when they book on Vrbo. The terms, effective July 28, 2026, list no Blue rate for Vrbo. We can only report what the document says.

The terms are hard to reach. Our researcher was refused by a bot check on every attempt to open the One Key terms, the Vrbo terms of service and Vrbo's own explainer pages. Our verifier got through once and saved the full document, which is what this page is built from. If the page tells you it cannot tell whether you are human, try again later; the document exists and is dated.

The program can end. “The Programs have no predetermined termination date and may continue until such time as when we decide to terminate the Programs.” On termination you get at least 60 days to use remaining OneKeyCash; after that it is forfeited without recourse or compensation. No end date is printed.

Open vrbo.comNo link or code changes what a new customer gets, because nothing is on offer.
Read the One Key termsSection 18 is Vrbo. The summary is on the help page; refunds are set per listing, see the cancellation options; the affiliate scheme is the Travel Creator Program.

Is it worth your time?

As a reward, no. There is nothing to claim on Vrbo as a new customer, and no link anyone can give you that changes that. Book a Vrbo rental because it is the place you want at a price you accept, read the host's cancellation policy as the real contract, and treat One Key as a small bonus on Expedia and Hotels.com bookings rather than on this one.

If you already hold Silver or above from other Expedia Group bookings, 1% or 2% back on a Vrbo stay is worth being signed in for. Just spend it within 18 months.
