The Farmer's Dog homepage offers new customers 50% off a first purchase, while its posted offer terms describe a free box worth up to $300, and nothing we read says which one governs.
The homepage banner read “You've been gifted 50% off your first purchase! REDEEM NOW”, over a button reading “Get started - 50% off”. The company's offer terms page, live the same day, describes a different offer: “Offer valid for a free box of The Farmer's Dog fresh dog food, up to a maximum value of $300.00, from November 27, 2025 9:00am ET while supplies last online at thefarmersdog.com in the contiguous 48 United States only.” The homepage said nothing about a free box or $300. We do not know which set of rules applies to your order, and neither page says.
What pays what
| A new customer starting from the homepage today | 50% off the first purchase, per the banner |
|---|---|
| A new customer under the posted offer terms | A free box up to $300.00, not shown on the homepage |
| Two offers on one order | Not allowed, say the offer terms |
| Every order after the discounted one | The full price for your plan, until you cancel |
| A new customer joining through a subscriber's referral link | Whatever credit the link specifies, if any |
No page we read prints what a plan costs, so we cannot turn 50% into dollars. The Terms of Use say the recurring price depends on your selected plan and sits in your account; the homepage says shipping is free with any plan.
Do this, in this order
- Start from the homepage and screenshot the checkout. The discount you are shown before paying is the only record you will have of which offer you got. The offer terms add: “Offer cannot be combined with any other offers, credits or discounts.” Expect one discount, not both.
- Find your recurring price. “The recurring price of your subscription depends on your selected plan, and can be found at your account under the "Orders" section.” The terms also say the intervals between orders are subject to change.
- Find your cancellation deadline, and put it in your calendar. “Please note that cancellation deadlines vary by subscription type and you should refer to your account for the cancellation deadline applicable to you.” Each charge is submitted on or around the next day after that deadline. Cancel under Settings, or call (646) 780-7957 or (877) 414-8444.
- Pause instead of cancel if you only need a break. Pause Deliveries, in the same Settings page, lets you choose the date the subscription restarts, and the company says it will notify you before preparing the next order.
- Do not be alarmed by a $1 hold. The terms say signing up or adding a card generally appears as a $1 (USD) authorization that is released once the card is validated. It is not a charge.
Subscription fees are not refundable, in whole or in part.
Where The Farmer's Dog's pages disagree, and what it does not publish
An offer page ten months old, with no end. The free-box terms run “from November 27, 2025 9:00am ET while supplies last” and give no end date. They also reserve the right to change it: “The Farmer's Dog reserves the right to modify, terminate or cancel the offer at any time.” The page was still live on September 25, 2026, while the homepage showed a different discount. We found no written terms for the 50% at all, so we cannot say who qualifies for it, whether it has a cap, or when it ends.
What a referral link is worth to you. The Terms of Use print no amount: a new customer gets whatever credit the subscriber's link specifies, if any. Your order must not be canceled before shipment or returned or refunded within ninety (90) calendar days. Credit arrives within thirty (30) days, can be spent only on subscription orders, and expires twelve (12) months after it is received.
Why we carry no link. The referral rules list, among actions that can end a subscriber's eligibility for rewards or close their account: “Refer customers using spam, display advertising, sponsored links, unsolicited e-mails, automated systems or bots, scripts or automatic dialers or links on message boards, groups or forums.” A code posted on a public page would put the subscriber's rewards and account at risk. The Terms of Use carry “Last Updated September 14, 2026.”
Is it worth your time?
If you have already decided to try fresh dog food by subscription, half off the first purchase is a real saving, and you can pause or cancel from your account. Take the screenshot, note the deadline, and judge the plan on the full price that follows, because that is what you will pay from the second order on.
Do not sign up on the strength of a free box worth up to $300. It is printed on a live terms page, but the homepage did not offer it when we looked, and the terms let the company end it at any time. If an offer you were promised is not the one at checkout, stop before you pay: fees, once charged, are not refundable.
