Shipt pays nothing for referring a friend; what a new customer gets is a 14-day free trial that renews at the full membership price.
This is a free trial, not a credit. Nothing is paid to you, and nothing is paid to whoever told you about Shipt. Without a membership, Shipt's page prices a one-time delivery at $10 an order, so the trial's value depends on how many orders you place in 14 days: three orders of $35 or more would have cost $30 in one-time delivery charges.
What pays what
| A new customer starting a membership | 14 days free, then the plan price |
|---|---|
| A returning customer | No trial |
| A member who refers a friend | Nothing |
| The friend who was referred | Nothing beyond the public trial |
| Annual plan after the trial | $99 a year, billed annually |
| Monthly plan after the trial | $10.99 a month |
| No membership at all | $10 an order, no order minimum |
At this time, Shipt members cannot refer others to sign up for a membership.
That article carries the line “Last updated on March 27th, 2026”. It offers two other routes: you can buy a friend an annual or 6-month gift membership, which costs you money, and a Shipt shopper can refer other people to become shoppers from inside the shopper app. Shipt's shopper referral article concerns work, not grocery orders: both shoppers can earn a bonus once the new shopper completes a set number of orders on time, and “Referral bonus amounts will vary by metro and shopper and are subject to change.” It adds that shoppers can no longer earn anything for bringing in members: they “will no longer see a” Share Shipt option in the app “to refer new members and receive a reward.”
Do this, in this order
- Check that you qualify before you enter a card. “Offer valid for new customers only, returning customers are ineligible.” Shipt's pages also say: “Shipt does not operate in Alaska, Wyoming, and West Virginia.” Use the store finder on the trial page to confirm it serves your address.
- Choose the plan by its refund rule, not only its price. Annual is $99 a year, which Shipt shows as $8.25 a month. Monthly is $10.99 a month, and 12 times $10.99 is $131.88, so a full year on monthly costs $32.88 more. The cheaper plan takes the whole year's fee at once. Shipt's guidance allows a full refund of an annual fee only during the first month, and no refund of a monthly fee at all.
- Put day 14 in your calendar the day you start. “Cancellation available free of charge anytime during trial.” The Terms of Service say you cancel from the Manage Membership page, or by emailing support@shipt.com with your full name, phone number and email address. If you keep the plan, it renews every term until you cancel, and you have to cancel before the renewal period begins.
- Keep each order at $35 or more. The $0 delivery fee in the headline has a floor: “Deliveries under $35 with a membership will incur a $7 fee.” The same footnote adds: “All orders with alcohol (where available) may incur a $7 alcohol fee.” It also says service fees may apply and will vary by retailer and location, so read the checkout total, not the banner.
- Expect a card hold larger than your basket. Shipt charges your card when you order, for more than the items cost, to cover substitutions and add-ons. The terms cap it: “The Pre-Authorization will never exceed $50.00 over the amount of your order total at checkout.” Shipt says the difference is refunded automatically, and that it may take a day or more to process.
The refund rule, line by line
It is guidance, not a promise. The Terms of Service, marked “Last updated: 09-14-2026”, say Shipt may provide membership fee refunds at its sole discretion, and then list three cases. Annual, canceled in the first month: eligible for a full refund. Annual, after the first month: not eligible, absent extenuating circumstances that Shipt decides. Monthly: not eligible.
A refund ends the membership at once. If you cancel and receive a refund, the terms say your benefits terminate at the time of cancellation.
Former members get none. The clause quoted above has no time limit in it. Someone who held a membership before and comes back on an annual plan has, on the terms as written, no first-month refund to fall back on.
What Shipt does not publish
How long the trial offer will run. No end date appears on the trial page. The trial is subject to Shipt's Promotion Terms and Conditions, which say Shipt does not guarantee that any promotion will stay open for any particular period, and that it may cancel promotions at any time. The copy of those terms we read shows no date of its own.
The service fee. The trial page says service fees may apply and vary by retailer and location. It gives no amount.
A footnote without its offer. The foot of the promotion terms page carries a note that an offer is valid for Target Circle 360 members only, now through December 2026. The page we read does not say which offer that note belongs to, so we make no claim about it.
If Shipt sends you a promotion later
Shipt's promotion terms describe three kinds: a cart discount on the current order, a promotional credit for a future order, and a delivery discount. Credits expire three months after they are credited unless the promotion says otherwise, and none of the three can be used on alcohol. “Promotional Credits are not transferable to another person or account and cannot be redeemed for cash.” If you cancel a qualifying order after delivery, or refuse it, any benefit already granted ends.
Is it worth your time?
As a trial, yes, for a new customer who orders in $35 baskets. Canceling inside the trial costs nothing. Treat it as a test with a deadline, not as a bonus.
If you came looking for a refer-a-friend credit, there is none to find: Shipt's own help center says members have no referral to give. The decision that matters is the one at day 14: $99 for a year with a one-month refund window, $10.99 a month with no refund, or $10 an order with no commitment.
