Examined Oct 1, 2026 Invitation only No link we may carry

Happen Bank, the name LendingClub took on June 22, 2026, paid a $200 savings bonus only to customers it had invited, and the window to open closed on September 30, 2026.

Think twicebefore opening a Happen Bank account for a bonus you read about. Unless Happen Bank sent you the offer by email or in online banking, its terms say you are not eligible, new or existing. This verdict covers the bonus only.

Invitation only$200 on LevelUp Savings for the original recipient of Happen Bank's message, and nothing for anyone else

The bonus is real and its terms are public, in the Personal Deposits Product Terms and Conditions, marked Rev. Date: 06/2026, whose old lendingclub.com address now redirects to happen.com. But the first three sentences of that clause decide who may have it, and they shut out everyone the bank did not contact. If the bank did not send you the offer, you are not eligible, whether you are a new customer or an old one. The only other reward on either site is the Personal Loan Referral Program, which pays a gift card of a size it does not print, and only after an email says you qualify.

If Happen Bank did not send you the message, no post can make you eligible. The product terms say: “Bonuses are only available to the original recipient of the communication directly from Happen Bank. Other customers who are not direct recipients of the communication from Happen Bank, whether new or existing, are not eligible for this offer.” If you were sent it, the account had to be open, with at least $2,000 in it, as of September 30, 2026. That date has passed. If you made it, the next test is at least $2,000 again on November 30, 2026.

If you receive a direct communication (through email or online banking) from Happen Bank about earning an account opening bonus, you may be eligible to earn a bonus. Bonuses are only available to the original recipient of the communication directly from Happen Bank. Other customers who are not direct recipients of the communication from Happen Bank, whether new or existing, are not eligible for this offer.

Do this, in this order

  1. Check whether you were invited, or stop here. The invitation came by email or inside online banking. A forwarded copy did not make you the original recipient, and the terms limit the bonus to one per customer.
  2. Check that you opened LevelUp Savings and funded it to $2,000 by September 30, 2026. That date has passed, so if you did not, you cannot start now. If you did, hold at least $2,000 again on November 30, 2026. The terms: “To receive a $200 bonus, you must: 1) open a Happen LevelUp Savings account by September 30, 2026 2) establish a qualifying balance of at least $2000 in the account as of September 30, 2026 and 3) have the qualifying balance of at least $2,000 in the account as of November 30, 2026 when a secondary balance check will be completed.” The account has no minimum opening deposit and no monthly maintenance fee.
  3. Keep the account open until the bonus posts. “If eligibility requirements are met, your bonus will be deposited in your LevelUp Savings account by December 31, 2026.” The terms add: “Your account must be open with a balance of at least $0.01 at the time of bonus posting in order to receive the bonus.” Happen Bank may report the bonus to the IRS.
  4. Keep the higher rate with $250 of deposits a statement cycle. LevelUp Rate 4.20% APY, Standard Rate 3.00%, both variable and both stated as accurate as of 09/30/2026 on the personal banking page we read on October 1, 2026. The first evaluation period is the third statement cycle after opening; after that, a cycle without $250 of deposits drops the next cycle to the Standard Rate. “Interest payments, account bonuses, account credits and reversals or refunds from the bank are not considered deposits for rate evaluation purposes.” So the $200 itself does not count.
  5. Treat the loan referral as a loan decision, not a bonus. A referred borrower may earn an Amazon.com gift card of a size the terms do not print, only after an email says they are eligible, ordinarily within 30 calendar days of the second on-time loan payment, and capped at $500 per calendar year. “In the event of a Personal Loan with a co-borrower, only the primary borrower would be eligible for a reward through the Personal Loan Referral Program.” The loans carry an APR from 5.96% to 35.96% and an origination fee from 0.00% to 8.00%.

Two names on the documents, and what neither of them says

The rebrand. Happen Bank's pages are titled formerly LendingClub, its savings page has an FAQ headed “Why did LendingClub change its name to Happen Bank?”, its Terms of Use are stamped “Last updated June 22, 2026”, and the product terms say all credit and deposit products are provided by Happen Bank, N.A., a subsidiary of Happen, Inc.

The referral terms did not get the memo. The Referral Program Terms and Conditions at refer.lendingclub.com define the program as one administered by LendingClub Bank, National Association, say LendingClub throughout, and carry no date. The bank reserves the right to cancel, modify or terminate any referral program at any time and to cancel or modify earned rewards, and it caps its liability for all referral programs at $100. Rewards of $600 or more in a year can bring a W-9 request and a Form 1099.

The referral pages are empty. happen.com/refer and happen.com/refer-a-friend both showed us the general homepage, under the page title “Happen Bank, formerly LendingClub, formerly LendingClub | Personal Loans & Banking” and above a footer that still carries a NerdWallet copyright line. No referral offer appears on either.

Not published. The size of the loan-referral gift card; whether the savings bonus returns after September 30, 2026; the date of the referral terms. Of referral rewards the terms say: “Unless otherwise stated, rewards have no monetary value and may not be redeemed for cash.”

Is it worth your time?

If Happen Bank invited you and you opened by September 30, 2026 with $2,000 in the account that day, yes, see it through: keep at least $2,000 there for the November 30, 2026 check and keep the account open until the bonus posts, by December 31, 2026. $200 on $2,000 held for two months is a large return, the account has no fee, and the money keeps earning its own rate meanwhile. If you did not open by September 30, 2026, the bonus is closed to you.

For everyone else there is nothing to chase. The LevelUp Savings rate may still suit you, but that is a rate decision, and it needs $250 of deposits every statement cycle to hold. Do not take a personal loan for a gift card of unstated size. If a public bank bonus is what you want, KeyBank below pays one; Synchrony and CIT Bank, like Happen Bank, offer rates rather than cash for joining.
