Examined Oct 3, 2026 No bonus for new customers No referral program

Synchrony Bank pays a new customer no sign-up bonus and no referral reward; the whole offer is a 3.55% APY that Synchrony can change at any time without notice.

Think twicebefore you go looking for a Synchrony bonus code or a friend's link. We found neither, on any page Synchrony publishes for its savings accounts. This verdict covers the bonus only: a 3.55% APY with no minimum and no monthly fee is a real rate, and we did not examine the service.
Nothing for a new customerNo referral program3.55% APY, as of 10/03/2026Examined Oct 3
Nothingfor opening a High Yield Savings account, beyond the ordinary interest the account pays

The page's only pitch is the rate. On October 3, 2026 it showed 3.55% APY under the label Special Member Rates, with three lines beneath it: no minimum deposit, no minimum balance, no monthly fees. No dollar amount for joining appears anywhere. To put the rate in money: 3.55 percent of $10,000 is $355, which is what a $10,000 balance would earn in a year if the rate held all year, and Synchrony says it may not.

The rate on the page is a snapshot, not a promise. Synchrony's disclosures date it to the day: “ANNUAL PERCENTAGE YIELD (APY): All APYs are accurate as of 10/03/2026.” Then: “For High Yield Savings Accounts, the rate may change after the account is opened.” If you are moving money for the rate, there is no bonus to soften a cut, and the disclosures say the rate can change without notice.

The CD rates carry their own line: a penalty may be imposed for early withdrawals, and a CD that rolls over at maturity earns whatever rate Synchrony offers for that CD type at the time.

Do this, in this order

  1. Do not wait for a bonus, and do not hunt for a link. There is no reward to forfeit by opening the account without one. On October 3, 2026 we searched fully rendered captures of the High Yield Savings page and the rates-and-terms page, and the FAQ page's own data, for the words bonus and refer. No bonus and no referral program on any of them; the only uses of refer are lines like please refer to your deposit agreement. A page elsewhere promising a Synchrony bonus code is describing something Synchrony's own site does not.
  2. Read the rate as today's rate. The 3.55% is stated as accurate as of 10/03/2026, and the label above it, Special Member Rates, is not explained anywhere on the page. Synchrony compares its rate to a national average it attributes to Curinos data through 09/01/2026. The figure is filled in by script; the data file behind it, on Synchrony's own site, gives 0.32% for High Yield Savings. Synchrony's footnote says Curinos data is obtained from public sources and its accuracy is not guaranteed.
  3. Decide how you will get money in and out before you fund it. Deposits arrive by transfer from a linked outside bank, mobile check deposit with a daily limit of $2,000.00 per account, direct deposit from a third party such as the US Treasury or a pension, a wire started by the sending bank, or a mailed check. Going out, the page says: “Synchrony Bank does not charge a fee to transfer funds to and from your High Yield Savings and Money Market accounts.” But: “Checks are not available with a High Yield Savings account.” A wire out is by phone and costs $25.00.
  4. Treat the ATM card as a convenience with a cap. The card is optional and works at machines showing the Plus or Accel logos, in the U.S. or overseas. Synchrony charges nothing itself; the machine's owner may. “Synchrony Bank will refund domestic ATM fees charged by other Financial Institutions, up to $5.00 per statement cycle.” Diamond status in the Perks Rewards Program lifts the cap; foreign exchange and overseas transaction fees are never refunded.
  5. Stay inside the cover. “Synchrony Bank is a member of the FDIC. Your deposit accounts are insured up to $250,000.00 per ownership category.” The offers apply to personal non-IRA accounts only.

What Synchrony does not publish, and what we could not read

A bonus, an end date, or a referral program. There is no offer, so there are no offer terms and no deadline. The one date on the page is the one on the rate. Synchrony does run a referral program for businesses that offer its financing, on a separate site; it pays merchants, not a person opening a savings account, and we did not read it.

The rate itself, in the plain page. Synchrony's pages fill the rate in with a script, so a plain fetch of the savings page or the rates-and-terms page shows the percentages blank and the date line reading accurate as of nothing. On October 3, 2026 we read both pages after letting the script run, and the rates feed that script calls, Synchrony's own service at api.syf.com. All three agree: High Yield Savings at 3.55% APY, an interest rate of 3.48%, the same at every balance, and CDs of 16 and 13 months at 4.30% and 4.40% APY. On September 25 the same feed gave 3.30% APY, so the rate went up between our two reads.

The FAQ page. Synchrony's Banking FAQs page shows only menus and a footer until a script builds it, but the questions travel as data inside the page. We read every one of them again on October 3, 2026. None offers a bonus or a referral reward, and they agree with the savings page on fees: “There's no fee to receive a wire transfer. You'll be charged $25 to send a wire transfer, unless you have Diamond status in our Perks Reward program.”

Who may open the account. The Consumer Deposit Account Agreement, effective 07/01/2025, requires a U.S. Person for federal tax purposes who is “at least 18 years old (except for UTMA/UGMA and Guardianship accounts), have a valid Social Security Number and a valid U.S. phone number and address (other than a Post Office Box or similar mail delivery address) in one of the 50 states, Washington, D.C. or one of the inhabited U.S. territories, or an APO, DPO or FPO address”. No state is left out. The same agreement allows “only 6 transfers or withdrawals from your account during each statement cycle” from High Yield Savings by transfer, check or card purchase; ATM withdrawals do not count, and going over often can get the account closed.

Is it worth your time?

There is nothing here to spend time on: no code to enter, no deposit to time, no friend to ask. If you were holding off on a Synchrony account until a bonus came along, the pages Synchrony publishes give you no reason to keep waiting. What they give you instead is a rate, 3.55% on the day we read it, with no minimum and no monthly fee, and a written warning that it can move.

If a sign-up reward is what you are after, the three banks below pay one. Marcus pays it as a rate boost rather than cash, so compare it with Synchrony's plain rate before you move; Ally and Capital One 360 pay cash on conditions of their own.
