CIT Bank's only public offer is a rate boost: promo code BOOST50 adds 0.50% APY to Platinum Savings for six months, about $25 per $10,000, and there is no cash bonus.
This is a rate promotion, not a sign-up bonus. Nothing is deposited. The account earns 0.50% more than the standard Platinum Savings rate for six months. The standard rates as of July 1, 2026 are 3.75% APY on $5,000 or more and 0.25% APY below that, so the boosted rates are 4.25% and 0.75%. By our arithmetic, 0.50% of $10,000 is $50 a year, so about $25 over the six months, and about $12.50 on $5,000. New and existing customers can enroll. No invitation or link is needed: the code is printed on the offer page.
What pays what
| New customer, Platinum Savings opened with promo code BOOST50 by Dec 15, 2026, balance of $5,000 or more | 4.25% APY for 6 months, then the standard 3.75% |
|---|---|
| Same account, balance below $5,000 | 0.75% APY for 6 months, then the standard 0.25% |
| Existing CIT Bank customer enrolling a Platinum Savings account already open, or opening a new one, with the code | The same 0.50% boost for 6 months from enrollment |
| Any part of a balance above $9,999,999.00 | The standard APY only |
| Account opened during the promotion without the code | No boost |
| Took part in a previous APY Boost promotion, including CITBOOST | Not eligible |
| Took a CIT cash bonus promotion in the past 6 months, or already earning an APY over the standard rate | Not eligible |
| Custodial accounts and accounts in the name of a trust | Not eligible |
What the boost alone adds over the six months, by our arithmetic. The standard rate comes on top.
| $1,000 held for six months (boosted rate 0.75%) | About $2.50 |
|---|---|
| $5,000 held for six months (boosted rate 4.25%) | About $12.50 |
| $10,000 held for six months | About $25 |
| $50,000 held for six months | About $125 |
Accounts enrolled in the Platinum Savings Annual Percentage Yield (APY) Boost promotion will receive a 0.50% APY boost on the Platinum Savings current standard APY tiers for 6 months following the opening of a new account or when an existing Platinum Savings account is enrolled in the promotion.
One boost per account and per primary customer; open several Platinum Savings accounts and only one is eligible. The offer is non-transferable. The terms set no minimum balance to take part, beyond the $100 needed to open.
Do this, in this order
- Check the exclusions first. The terms list who cannot take part: “They participated in a previous APY Boost promotion.” “They participated in a cash bonus promotion in the past 6 months.” and “They are earning an APY over the standard rate.” Custodial and trust accounts are out too, and the boost “may not be combined with other promotions.” If you are still inside a CITBOOST six months, two of these apply to you. CIT does not say how it decides that you are earning above the standard rate. If you hold another promotional rate with CIT, expect that clause to apply.
- Open Platinum Savings with the code, or enroll the account you already have. The code is BOOST50, the same in the headline and the terms. A new customer opens through the enrollment page with the code and at least $100: “The minimum to open a Platinum Savings account is $100.” An existing customer enrolls the Platinum Savings account they already have through the same page, or opens a new one there. Someone who is on a Platinum Savings account but not its primary owner can open a new one as primary owner with the code. CIT asks for an address, phone number, email and a Social Security number or ITIN.
- Fund it to $5,000 or more. That is the tier where the boost is worth having. Deposits can arrive by ACH transfer, mobile check deposit, a mailed check or an incoming wire, which CIT says is free. Money added during the six months earns the boosted rate too, but every day below $5,000 earns 0.75%, not 4.25%. By our arithmetic, $1,000 held for the six months earns about $2.50 from the boost.
- Do it before December 15, 2026, and do not count on the date. The terms say: “The Promotion begins on September 29, 2026, and ends December 15, 2026.” They add: “The promotion can end at any time without notice.” Anyone enrolled before the end date keeps the boost for its six months.
- Expect the boost on a tax form, and expect the rate to move. “The value of Platinum Saving Boost will be reported as interest income on IRS Form 1099-INT for the calendar year in which it was paid. The recipient is responsible for any applicable taxes.” The standard rate is variable. If it changes during the six months, the 0.50% moves with it, so the boost is a margin over a moving rate, not a fixed 4.25%.
What changed on September 29, 2026
Until September 29, 2026, this offer used promo code CITBOOST and added 0.35% APY for six months, with an end date of October 31, 2026. We last read those terms on September 25, 2026. On September 29, 2026, CIT replaced it with BOOST50 and a 0.50% boost. The new terms shut out anyone who took part in a previous APY Boost promotion, so CITBOOST customers cannot enroll again.
What CIT Bank does not publish, and where its pages differ
No cash bonus, but the terms mention one. No page we could read offers cash for opening an account. Yet the boost terms exclude anyone who took a cash bonus promotion in the past 6 months. A cit.com address that search engines still list for a savings bonus returned only the word Loading when we tried it in September. If CIT runs a cash offer for some customers, it is not on the public pages.
A line out of place in the terms. On the October 2 page, the exclusion for past APY Boost customers sits above the sentence that introduces the exclusion list, not under it. On September 30 it appeared twice. We read it as an exclusion either way.
Two pages, one enrollment flow. When we read it in September, the plain Platinum Savings page showed only the standard 3.75% and 0.25% rates and never mentioned the boost. Its Get started button led to the promotion's enrollment address. Both pages call the rates variable.
Not stated anywhere we read. How far back the past APY Boost exclusion reaches: the cash bonus clause names 6 months, and this one names no period. A minimum age, state or residency rules, beyond the Social Security number or ITIN asked for at opening. A fee schedule for Platinum Savings itself: the FAQ says savings accounts have no opening or monthly service fees, and its $10 outgoing wire fee on balances under $25,000 is listed under other CIT accounts. Whether a joint owner can enroll an account already open.
No referral program. We found no refer-a-friend offer on any CIT Bank page, so there is nothing to share and nothing to link. The code is on the page.
Is it worth your time?
If you already keep $5,000 or more in savings and were open to moving it, yes, as a rate: 4.25% APY for six months on an account with no monthly fee and a $100 minimum to open. Size the prize honestly. By our arithmetic the boost itself is worth about $25 per $10,000 over the six months, and about $125 on $50,000. It arrives as interest and is taxed as interest.
If you took CITBOOST, this offer is closed to you. If you are hunting for a cash sign-up bonus, this is not one, and a balance under $5,000 earns 0.75% with the boost. One account below pays cash, one pays a rate margin like CIT, and one pays nothing at all.
