Membership cancellation

Anytime Fitness has no national cancellation policy. That sentence is the policy.

Your agreement is the only document that states how to cancel your club, what it costs, and whether a termination fee applies. The company says exactly that.

Every Anytime Fitness location is independently owned. The chain’s published FAQ answers the cancellation question by pointing you back at the paper you signed.

What the company actually publishes

Quoted from Anytime Fitness

“All cancellation policies are outlined in the membership agreement for each location. The agreement covers the cost to cancel, how to cancel and more information on any additional termination fees you may incur.”

Read that closely and it commits to three things: a per-location policy exists, it lives in the membership agreement, and the agreement is where the cost to cancel and any additional termination fees are written down. Those words also quietly confirm that termination fees exist at some clubs. Nothing on the public site says how much, anywhere, because no national number exists to publish.

Why it works this way

Quoted from Anytime Fitness

“Club dues, monthly fees and any additional charges are specific to each independently owned gym.”
FAQs, pricing read August 19, 2026

Independently owned means each club is its own business signing its own contracts. The same FAQ notes membership plans differ by location too, with 6, 12 and 18-month options at some gyms, and those term lengths matter here: a cancellation inside a fixed term is exactly where a termination fee tends to live. The freeze answer repeats the pattern: Each of our locations are independently owned and operated.

The practical playbook, given all that

  1. Get your membership agreement out first. If you cannot find your copy, ask your home club for one; it is the document both sides are bound by.
  2. Find three clauses: the notice period, the accepted delivery method (some agreements require written notice, some name certified mail), and the termination fee with the term it attaches to.
  3. Cancel by the method the agreement names, in writing, with dated proof. Whatever the method, a dated record is what settles a billing dispute later. If mail is accepted, certified mail is cheap proof, the same advice LA Fitness gives its own members in writing.
  4. Confirm the end date and the last billing in writing from your club, and watch the next two billing cycles.
If a staff member quotes you a rule from memory, ask where it appears in your agreement. The company’s own FAQ says the agreement carries the policy. A rule that is not in it is not your rule.

Questions people actually ask

Can I cancel online?

The public FAQ names no online cancellation route. Whether one exists for you depends on your club and your agreement; ask your home club.

Can I cancel at a different location?

Your agreement is with your home club, and only a party to it can end it. Other locations can let you train, not cancel.

What if I signed a 12-month plan?

Then the term is the first thing to check. The FAQ confirms 6, 12 and 18-month options exist at some clubs, and a fixed term is where a termination fee usually attaches. Your agreement states whether waiting out the term is cheaper than buying out of it.

Does moving away help?

Some gym agreements carry relocation clauses; nothing about one is published nationally. Look for it in your agreement before assuming it exists.
