Examined Sep 25, 2026 Paid in subscription time, never cash Referral terms behind a sign-in

Google One prints no sign-up bonus anywhere a visitor can read it: the AI Pro referral terms sit behind a Google sign-in, and storage purchases are non-refundable in most countries.

Think twicebefore you pay for Google One expecting a referral reward. We could not read what the referral gives you, and the pages we could read say the purchase is non-refundable in most countries, the storage is yours only for the term you paid, and unused AI credits may be forfeited when you cancel.

Unpublishedis what a new Google One member gets from a referral, because the terms that would say are not on any public page

Google One has referral addresses, one generic and one for Google AI Pro. Both sent us, as a visitor who was not signed in, to a Google Accounts page and nothing else. What we could read is the general Offer terms, which govern whatever free trial or discount a member redeems: they promise subscription benefits at no charge for the promoted period from the day you redeem, and they do not print how long that period is. The plans page itself advertises no trial: Basic 100 GB at $1.99 a month, Google AI Plus 2 TB at $9.99, Google AI Pro 5 TB at $19.99.

Whatever you pay is, in most countries, not coming back. Google's help page on cancelling says: “In most countries or regions, Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable. The amount of storage you purchased is yours for the length of the subscription, even if you decide to cancel it.” If you pay a year up front and cancel in month two, you keep the storage until the year ends and keep none of the money. Purchases through the Play Store or the App Store follow those stores' own refund rules instead.

The same page gives one exception we saw: members based in Israel may be able to cancel with immediate effect and request a partial refund. Nothing similar is stated for the United States.

Do this, in this order

  1. Count the free 15 GB first. The plans page says all Google accounts come with up to 15 GB of storage, included in the total of any paid plan. A 100 GB plan is 100 GB in total, so it adds 85 GB (100 minus 15) to what you have.
  2. Do not budget for a referral reward you cannot read. Sign in and read the referral terms yourself if a member sends you a link. Until then, the only public fact is that the Offer terms bar stacking: an Offer “may not be combined with other Google One offers”.
  3. If you redeem a free Offer, write down the end date the same day. The terms say: “To avoid being charged, you must cancel before the end of the Offer Period. If you cancel your subscription during the Offer Period, your membership may remain active until the end of the Offer Period.” The end date shows in your Google Play Subscriptions page after you redeem; it is not printed beforehand.
  4. Expect the standard price the day the Offer ends. The Offer terms charge the standard monthly or annual price for your country from that date until you cancel, and the Offer needs a Google Payments account with a qualifying form of payment at sign-up.
  5. Use AI credits before you cancel. The Google One Additional Terms of Service say: “Any unused AI credits may be forfeited upon termination or cancellation of your Google One plan, subject to any applicable refund policies.” They can also expire on their own: “AI credits can expire after a certain period, as set out when you acquire them.”
  6. Watch your quota after you cancel. Google's help page says that if you are over your storage quota for 2 years or longer, all of your content may be deleted from your Google account. If you filled the space during a free Offer and then cancelled, you cannot store anything new until you free up space or pay.

What Google does not publish

The referral terms. Both referral addresses redirect a signed-out visitor to a Google Accounts page. What a referral pays, whether it pays the new member at all, how many links a member gets and whether one may be posted publicly are all unstated on any page we could reach. That is why this page carries no figure and grades the link rules as unknown.

How long a free Offer lasts. The Offer terms, which carry the line “Last updated: May 13, 2026”, say only that the Offer is available for a limited time. The one Offer we found with a printed length was a 4-month promotion for Pixel 8 buyers that had to be redeemed by July 1, 2024. Usage limits during an Offer may differ from a paid plan and may change without notice.

What it does say about price changes and failed payments. The Additional Terms, dated “Last Modified: November 11, 2025”, promise at least 30 days' notice of a price increase before you are charged. The help page says that if the auto-renewal fails, a seven-day grace period is added so you can update your payment information. The plans page notes an age limit of 18 and over.

Is it worth your time?

Not for a reward, because we cannot show you one. If a friend sends a Google One referral link, sign in, read what it actually says, and only then decide; nothing on the public pages promises you money, storage or time. If you simply need the storage, the decision is the price against the free 15 GB you already have, made knowing that in most countries the payment is final the moment it clears.

A free Offer, if you are shown one, is the one thing here worth taking, and only with a reminder set for the day before it ends.
