Extrabux puts $20 in a new account on day one, but releases it $5 at a time, and the last $5 needs $100 of earned cash back within 180 days.
The home page says a $20 Welcome Bonus is waiting for you, and the help article is just as direct: “When you join Extrabux, a $20 Welcome Bonus is automatically added to your account.” Added is not the same as yours. The same article lists four milestones that must be met within 180 days of joining before any of it can be used. The referral pages we read describe no extra reward for someone who joins through a friend's link.
What pays what
| Step 1: at least 1 purchase and $25 in total cash back | $5 |
|---|---|
| Step 2: at least 2 purchases and $50 in total cash back | Another $5 (total $10) |
| Step 3: at least 3 purchases and $75 in total cash back | Another $5 (total $15) |
| Step 4: at least 4 purchases and $100 in total cash back | The final $5 (total $20) |
| Under $25 in cash back by day 180 | Nothing |
"Super Cash Back" is considered an extra reward and does not count toward the total cash back amount required to unlock the Welcome Bonus.
None of the pages we read explains who receives the Super rate or when.
Do this, in this order
- Estimate before you join, because joining starts the clock. Add up what you expect to buy online in the next 180 days at stores Extrabux lists, and multiply by the store's plain Cash Back rate. If the answer is under $25, there is no bonus here for you. You must be at least 18 to join on your own.
- Join and write down the date. The $20 appears in the account straight away. Day 180 from that date is the deadline for all four steps, and the article gives no way to extend it.
- Spread the spending over at least four purchases. Each step needs one more purchase as well as $25 more in cash back, so one large order that earns $100 releases only the first $5 until three more purchases follow.
- Check which rate a store is paying you. Extrabux calls Super Cash Back an extra reward that does not count toward the totals, and it does not say whether the plain-rate part of such a purchase still counts. Expect your total for the bonus to lag behind the balance you see.
- Wait, then withdraw. A released step becomes Available once the merchant's return period, usually 90 days, has passed. The Terms of Service say payments go out only when you have at least $10.00 of Available money, that accounts cannot be combined to reach it, and that payment is by e-check or paper check, PayPal, e-gift card, direct deposit, or a Visa credit card issued in China or the United States. Members paid by check must be U.S. residents.
An idle account loses everything
There is no monthly fee. The whole balance goes at once. “If your user account is inactive for 365 consecutive days, you hereby release all rights to cash in your account and funds in your gift card balance, which shall automatically and immediately vest in Extrabux without any requirement of notice to you.” The Terms of Service do not define what counts as activity. Withdraw when you reach $10.00 instead of letting a balance sit.
Payment can be held. Extrabux reserves the right to withhold payment of cash back indefinitely for reasons that include suspected fraud, merchant concerns or unusual activity. If you return an item after being paid for it, Extrabux may recover those earnings. Its total liability to a member, for any reason, is capped at US$50.
What Extrabux leaves out of its contract
The Welcome Bonus is not in the contract. The Terms of Service carry the line “Effective Date: Aug 20, 2021” and mention sign-up bonuses only in passing. The four steps, the 180 days and the Super Cash Back exclusion live in an undated help article. The Terms also say: “You understand that we may update these terms from time to time without giving you any notice.” No end date is given for the bonus.
Is it worth your time?
Joining is free, so the cost is only attention. The question is whether $20 is a real number for you. At the 4% rate in our example, $20 on $2,500 of purchases is an extra 0.8% ($20 divided by $2,500), and it arrives about 90 days after the purchase that released it. For someone already putting that much through a cash back site in six months, it is a small bonus on top. For everyone else the honest figure is $5 or zero.
Do not buy anything to reach a step. And if you join and then drift away, withdraw what you can first: a forgotten Extrabux account is emptied after 365 days, not charged a fee.
If you refer someone later
The referral rules apply only to members “approved for the Friend Referral Program”, and nothing we read says how a member is approved. The friend must be completely new to Extrabux and must enter your account email at signup or join within 7 days of clicking your link. Self-referrals, duplicate accounts and members of the same household do not count, and Extrabux can reclaim a bonus after paying it. To redeem your $5 you must yourself have made at least $5 in purchases and earned at least $1 in cash back. The Terms of Service say it is available once the friend's qualifying purchase is reported; the help center says that typically takes about 90 days from the purchase.
