Discover Bank offers a new customer no sign-up bonus and no referral reward, and its checking and savings links now lead to Capital One.
Discover's online banking page opens with the heading “Discover is part of Capital One” and pitches the accounts on fees, not on a bonus: “Manage your money with no fees, no minimums and no overdraft fees.” No dollar amount for joining appears anywhere on it. Its checking link redirects to Capital One's 360 Checking page, and its savings link to Capital One's 360 Performance Savings page. Neither of those two landing pages names a bonus either.
What pays what
| You, opening a checking, savings or CD account from Discover's banking page | Nothing stated |
|---|---|
| A Discover Bank customer who refers you to a bank account | No program exists |
| Discover's card Refer a Friend, for a friend approved for a new credit card | A statement credit, amount not published |
| 1% debit card Cashback Bonus described in the deposit agreement | Up to $30 a month, not a welcome bonus |
| Capital One's own promo code offers on its 360 accounts | See our Capital One 360 guide |
Do this, in this order
- Do not wait for a Discover Bank bonus, and do not hunt for a link. There is no reward to forfeit by signing up without one. Discover's deposit agreement does say that special promotion bonuses and credits may be treated as interest for tax reporting, so the bank has room to run one. We found none running.
- Know what you are opening. Click Checking Account or Online Savings Account on Discover's banking page and you land on capitalone.com, on the pages for 360 Checking and 360 Performance Savings. The account you open from there is a Capital One account, under Capital One's terms.
- If a bonus is the point, read Capital One's offer terms, not Discover's pages. Capital One runs promo code bonuses on its 360 accounts, and our Capital One 360 guide covers them. No page we saved says whether a current or former Discover Bank customer counts as a new customer for a Capital One offer. Read the eligibility lines of the offer itself before you count on it.
- If you hold money at both, add the balances together. The Capital One pages that Discover's links lead to carry this note: “Please note that any Capital One or Discover Bank deposit accounts opened on or after May 18, 2025 are immediately counted with your other Capital One deposit accounts for determining deposit insurance coverage by the FDIC.” The 360 Checking page gives the FDIC limit as $250,000.
- Already a Discover Bank customer? Nothing to do yet. Discover tells existing customers to keep managing their accounts on the Discover website and app, and says: “We'll reach out by email or letter when there are updates to your Discover or Capital One accounts.”
Where Discover's banking links go now
On May 18, 2025, Discover merged into Capital One. We're one company under Capital One, N.A.
One company, two sets of pages. The footer of Discover's banking page describes Discover as a division of Capital One, N.A., Member FDIC. The page lists three products under the heading Banking with Capital One: 360 Checking, 360 Performance Savings and 360 CD accounts. For questions about a Discover account, it still sends customers to Discover, at Discover.com, in the Discover app or at 1-800-347-7000.
No overdraft fees, with a condition. The checking blurb on Discover's page carries its own small print: “To qualify for no-fee overdraft, you must regularly deposit at least $250 during two of the previous three calendar months.” And for anyone just starting: “New accounts will not have access to no-fee overdraft until the consistent deposit requirement has been met.”
What the Discover deposit agreement still says. The National Deposit Account Agreement is still published. To open an account under it, each owner must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. resident alien or other U.S. person, at least 18, with a valid SSN or EIN and a valid physical U.S. address. It says: “There is no minimum opening balance requirement for any Deposit Account type.” It describes 1% debit card Cashback Bonus rewards on up to $3,000 in qualifying purchases per calendar month, and caps them: “The maximum amount of Cashback Bonus rewards that may be earned each month is $30 per Account, including joint Accounts.” That is 1% of $3,000. ATM transactions earn nothing. Discover's pages do not say whether a new customer can still open that account. The Checking Account link leads to Capital One.
What Discover does not publish
A bonus, an end date, or a bank referral program. There is no offer, so there are no offer terms and no deadline. The agreement does define the term it would use: a New Customer is one who has not had a Discover Checking, Savings Account or Money Market Account open and funded for at least 30 days.
A single date on the deposit agreement. The PDF carries two change notices instead: one effective May 17, 2026, about funds availability for checks drawn on Capital One, and one effective October 8, 2026, affecting Discover Money Market Accounts, which refers holders to a notice dated August 18, 2026. The site's Terms of Use are dated: “These Terms of Use were last updated May 18, 2025”.
The size of the card referral credit. The page names no amount. A friend must apply online through a cardmember’s personal link and be approved by 11:59 pm ET, December 31, 2026. Existing Discover cardmembers cannot be referred, the credits may be taxable, and Discover reserves the right to alter, change or terminate the program at any time.
Is it worth your time?
There is nothing here to spend time on: no code to enter, no deposit to time, no friend to ask. If you were holding off on a Discover account until a bonus came along, the pages Discover publishes give you no reason to keep waiting. They give you one new fact to weigh instead, which is that the account behind the link is Capital One's.
The way to lose out is to open an account through Discover's link, assume no bonus exists anywhere, and never look at the promo code offers Capital One publishes on its own site. If a sign-up reward matters to you, start with the first guide below and read its eligibility rules before you apply.
