Crypto.com Examined Jul 27, 2026 Paid in CRO Both sides get paid

Crypto.com's $75 referral is really $5 until you have traded $5,000.

Worth it ifyou were going to trade real money on Crypto.com anyway. At the first milestone the reward is $5 in CRO, and Gemini pays $50 for the same $100 of trading, in the same 30 days.

$5 to $75each, for you and for whoever's code you used, decided entirely by how much crypto you trade in your first 30 days

You arrived with $75 in your head, and almost every page that quotes that figure is quoting the top rung of a ladder. In the top country tier, which includes the United States, $100 of trading pays $5 and the full $75 arrives only at $5,000. Both sides always get the same figure, and it is paid in CRO, Crypto.com's own token, whose dollar value moves. There is a further $25 each for staking CRO or taking the Level Up Pro annual plan, which is real, but neither route is free.

  • The $75 in the headline, which needs $5,000 of trading$75
  • What $100 of trading in your first 30 days pays$5

Both figures are Crypto.com’s own, from the top country tier.

You choose between two bonuses before the account exists. New users who register a referral code during account creation are not eligible for the Welcome Bonus Program. One or the other, decided at sign-up, and you cannot go back and swap. There is one narrow escape hatch: if you signed up with no code, you can still add one within 14 days of your ID check being approved, as long as you have not made your first trade yet.

The top tier is Switzerland, the United States, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Finland and Cyprus. One oddity: the same help article says milestones stack and works through an example where hitting $500 earns both the $100 reward and the $500 reward, which read literally would add up past $75. But it also states a maximum of $75 per referral, and its own cap calculation uses $100 a referral, that is $75 of trading plus the $25 Level Up bonus. When a page disagrees with itself, plan on the smaller number.

Do this, in this order

  1. Pick your bonus before you create the account. A referral code at sign-up rules out the Welcome Bonus permanently. Look at both in the app before you start.
  2. Check your country is even in. The programme is not available in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Uganda or Singapore. Canada has been carved out onto its own separate set of rules that exist only on the in-app referral screen, so if you are Canadian, the tier table above is not your table.
  3. Pass the ID check, then start counting from there. KYC just means the identity check every regulated exchange runs: photo of a government document, sometimes a selfie. Your 30 days begin at the moment that check is approved, not when you first opened the app, and the window closes exactly 30 days later to the hour.
  4. Outside Europe, your phone country and your ID country must match. A German passport with an Australian phone number will not do. Australia is called out by name in the terms, and this is the sort of rule that fails quietly at payout.
  5. Trade actual cryptocurrency. Stocks and stablecoins are excluded from the volume count. A stablecoin is a crypto coin pinned to a real currency, USDC or USDT tracking the dollar, so moving cash into one feels like trading but adds nothing to your total. Buys and sells both count, which means a round trip of $50 in and $50 out gets you to $100 of volume.
  6. Aim at a milestone you will genuinely reach, and price in the fees. Grinding to $5,000 of volume purely to unlock $75 is a good way to hand most of the reward back in spreads and fees. The spread is the gap between the buy price and the sell price, and it is a cost even when no fee is itemised. If $500 of trading is realistic for you, the honest number is $15.
  7. Treat the extra $25 as a slow, paid extra. Staking CRO means locking up your own money in a volatile token, and the Level Up Pro annual plan is a paid subscription. The referral terms we read do not state what the plan costs, so check the price in the app before you count that $25 as profit. It also lands only after 30 days of subscribing, unlike the trading rewards.
  8. Keep the account active, and take the CRO price seriously. An active account is a condition of any bonus. Rewards arrive within 24 hours of each milestone, in CRO, and what you are handed is a token that can be worth less by the time you sell it.

The fine print that can still cost you

The reward is a token, priced by the house. Everything is paid in CRO, and Crypto.com states plainly that it reserves the right to determine the dollar-to-CRO exchange rate used for all bonuses. So the "$75" is $75 at a rate they choose, in an asset whose price then moves on its own.

You must be genuinely new to their promotions. Not just new to the app: users who have previously enrolled in the referral programme or another promotional programme are excluded. There is also a cohort carve-out, where people who signed up with a code between 3 November and 3 December 2025 may be excluded, which tells you how readily these rules get amended.

Referring has a ceiling too. Rewards stop after 100 successful referrals, and total referral earnings are capped at $10,000. The Prime referral rewards sub-programme has been terminated until further notice, so ignore any page still promoting it.

They can void the lot. Crypto.com retains the right to nullify any referral or campaign reward where it detects fraud, manipulation or suspicious activity. That is a wide net, and it is judged after you have done the trading.

Nobody can tell you how old these terms are. The help article carries only a relative timestamp, so there is no published date to check against. Read the live page before you act on any figure here, including ours. The tier table is also not the whole story on any given day, because the app runs time-boxed leaderboard campaigns alongside it.

Is it worth your time?

The gap between the headline and the reality is wider here than almost anywhere else in crypto. If you are a heavy trader who will pass $5,000 of volume in a month without trying, $75 each side plus $25 for a plan you were taking anyway is a decent piece of found money. If you are a normal person opening a first crypto account, you are looking at $5 in a volatile token for $100 of trading, and Kraken or Gemini will pay you many times that for a comparable amount of effort. The one thing that genuinely deserves five minutes of thought is the fork at sign-up.
