Capital One Savor pays a $200 cash bonus for $500 of purchases in 3 months, to anyone who has not taken this card's bonus in 48 months and applies from the page that shows it.
This is the open offer on Capital One's own Savor page, with no invitation and no referral link needed. The card earns 3% at grocery stores, on dining, entertainment and popular streaming services, 5% on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, and 1% on everything else; rewards do not expire for the life of the account and can be redeemed for any amount. Capital One's refer-a-friend program is separate and adds nothing for you.
What pays what
| You, a new primary account holder, $500 in purchases within 3 months of opening | $200 cash |
|---|---|
| Grocery stores, dining, entertainment and popular streaming services, after that | 3%, unlimited |
| Hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel | 5% |
| Everything else, with no annual fee | 1% |
| You, applying through a cardholder's referral link | Nothing extra |
| Anyone who received a new cardmember bonus on this product in the past 48 months | $0 |
| Superstores like Walmart and Target, counted as grocery | Not 3%; excluded |
Upon approval, eligible Savor primary account holders earn a $200 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. This one-time bonus is available by applying through this page, and may not be available if you navigate away from or close this page.
The footnote continues: once you qualify, the bonus is applied to your rewards balance within two billing cycles.
Do this, in this order
- Count back 48 months on Savor and SavorOne. The rule is about a new cardmember bonus received on this product, not about holding the card, so a Savor you opened years ago with no bonus is not the problem; a bonus in the last four years is.
- Check your eligibility first if you want to, then apply from the Savor page. The page offers a check that Capital One says shows offers “in as little as 90 seconds with no credit score impact.” Then apply from the same page, in one sitting. Capital One says the bonus may not be available if you navigate away from or close the page.
- Spend $500 on purchases within 3 months of opening. Groceries and restaurants count and earn 3% on top. Capital One says the merchant's category code decides what counts as grocery or dining, that superstores like Walmart and Target are not grocery stores, that a hotel restaurant or a grocery food counter may not code as dining, and that “Capital One is not responsible for codes used by merchants.”
- Look for the $200 in your rewards balance within two billing cycles. Cash back can be redeemed for any amount, and rewards do not expire for the life of the account. Redeem before you close the card: the rewards terms say a closed account may lose unredeemed rewards; see below.
- Pay in full, or know the rate. The page shows 0% intro APR for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers, then a variable 18.49% to 28.49%, with a balance transfer fee. There is no foreign transaction fee.
What Capital One does not publish, and what we could not read
What a referral pays. The refer-a-friend page says: “The referral bonus is based on which product you have. Sign in to your account or log into the mobile app to view what your specific referral bonus offer is.” So no page, and no site like ours, can tell you what a Capital One referral is worth without a Capital One login. The person applying gets the public $200.
The rewards terms. The Savor page's Rewards terms link loads Capital One's general Credit Card Reward Program Terms, which do not name Savor. Accounts that are “closed may have different redemption options or may lose any unredeemed rewards”, and “In the event of account closure, we may apply your rewards balance to any credit balance owed.” Any positive balance left over is mailed as a check. On tax: “Determination and payment of tax liability related to rewards are the sole responsibility of the Accountholder.” The terms also say “Accountholders have no property right in unredeemed rewards” and that Capital One may change redemption values at any time.
No end date, and no date on the offer. The Savor page prints no expiry for the $200 and no date of its own. The refer-a-friend page still uses SavorOne-branded images, a leftover from the rename Capital One's own page describes.
Is it worth your time?
If you clear the 48-month lookback, yes. $500 in 3 months is a low bar, there is no annual fee, and the $200 lands as cash within two billing cycles, redeemable in any amount. After that it is a no-fee card paying 3% on groceries, restaurants, entertainment and streaming, which for many households is where most of the spending goes anyway.
Apply from the Savor page in one sitting, because Capital One says the offer is tied to it. And do not chase a referral link for this card as the new customer: it changes nothing for you. If you already hold a Savor, the refer-a-friend tile in your own account is the only thing here for you.
