Every Sync.com plan is encrypted, and year one is 25% off via Buy now.
Personal 1TB is $108 for the first year billed annually, or $12 a month billed monthly. The page says: “Promotional pricing applies for the first year, then plans renew at the regular price.” No code is typed and no end date is printed.
What you actually get
Files only you can read. End-to-end encryption means your files are scrambled on your own device before they upload, and stay that way on Sync's servers, so only someone holding your key can open them. Sync's home page says not even Sync can see them. The help center: “Every Sync account, free or paid, gets the same underlying protection: end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge privacy, two-factor authentication, and file version history.”
A free plan that stays free. “The Free plan gives you 5 GB of secure, end-to-end encrypted cloud storage at no cost.” It includes the apps, the web panel, Vault, CloudFiles, camera uploads and 30 days of version history. Sync says: “Your files are no less secure on a free plan.”
Sync, backup and sharing. “Sync up to 5 of your own devices, with apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and the web.” “Links let you send a file or folder to anyone, without the recipient needing a Sync account.” Paid plans add unlimited links and shared folders, read-only access, expiry dates and longer file history.
No data selling. The pricing page lists no third-party tracking: “Sync does not track, share or sell app usage data”. The privacy policy adds: “You can opt out of product analytics tracking in your account settings.”
One setting to know. Email-based password reset keeps an encrypted copy of your key in escrow. “This allows Sync to assist with account recovery if you forget your password.” The Terms say an account with it turned on is not strictly zero-knowledge. Turn it off in the Privacy Center and Sync can no longer recover your account.

Sync’s referral program has been discontinued. While existing referral links will still allow new users to sign up, they will no longer provide additional storage rewards.
Do this, in this order
- Check the free plan's limits. 3 active links, 20 downloads per link a day; 3 Team Shared Folders; no file over 5 GB into a shared folder; no read-only access for invitees; no streaming in your own account; 30 days of version history; 5 GB of data transfer. The Terms let Sync end a free account at will, including one unused for six or more consecutive months.
- Paying? Use a Buy now link, and pay by card. A help article says PayPal is “not available for U.S. billing addresses”, though the pricing FAQ lists it.
- Taking the trial instead? Write down day 30. The trial page says “Your credit card won’t be charged during your free trial”. To move to a smaller plan, contact support before the trial ends.
- Changed your mind? Ask inside 30 days. The refund article says: “It does not apply to renewals, free trials, reactivations, or plan upgrades.” It does not say whether the first charge after a trial counts as a new purchase.
- Plan for year two. “Your paid Account will renew automatically for the same term, unless You cancel Your Account.” The Terms add: “Prices are subject to change on renewal of Your subscription.” To stop it, you cancel the account.
- Download your files before you cancel. “Upgrading is a one-way change. Sync does not support downgrading from a paid plan back to the Free plan.” A cancelled plan runs to the end of its term, then closes.
What Sync does not publish, and where its pages differ
How long the 25% runs. No end date is printed. The Buy now checkout codes are named BFCM25. Whether a card is needed to start the trial is not stated either.
When files are deleted. The cancel article says closing deletes all data “once your current billing term ends.” The closed-account article says: “While your account is closed, your files remain securely stored on our servers for 30 days.” Count on the earlier date.
Price-change notice. The Terms promise email notice “at least [30] days prior to Your next renewal date”, the number printed in square brackets.
The contract. The Terms were last modified September 15, 2026. US residents contract with Sync.com Corp. of Delaware, but disputes go to the courts of Toronto under Ontario law, unless the law where you live does not allow that choice. You must be 13 or older. The referral notice was last edited January 20, 2026.
Is it worth your time?
If privacy is why you are choosing storage, Sync says every plan, free included, gets the same end-to-end encryption. Start with the free 5 GB if your files fit. If not, buying Personal 1TB through Buy now at $108 is cheaper than letting a trial convert at $16 a month, and a new purchase carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Budget $144 for year two of Personal 1TB billed annually, and copy out what you need before you cancel: a paid account does not fall back to the free plan.
