On Replit's free plan, your $20 credit sits held until you start paying. Even then, it’s credits, never cash.
Credits, in Replit's own documentation, apply to Agent usage, deployments, storage and other usage-based services, which is a precise way of saying they buy more Replit. There is no cash option on that page, no gift card and no payout, and credits is the load-bearing word.
The referral page states the offer in one sentence.

Core is $25 a month, or $20 a month billed annually, and on the free Starter plan the credits stay locked until you are paying one of those.

Do this, in this order
- Decide whether Replit credits are worth anything to you. Credits are the only currency this offer deals in, they spend on Agent usage, deployments, storage and other metered services, and they buy nothing outside Replit. If you were hoping for cash or a gift card, stop here.
- Check which plan you are on before you share anything. On the free plan a referral's credits are held until you upgrade, so the first referral only breaks even for someone who was going to subscribe anyway.
- Know that your published apps are already sharing your link. On the free plan, every app you publish carries a "Made with Replit" badge with your unique referral link inside it. The link itself sits in the referrals tab of your Replit account settings, behind a login.
- Make sure the friend actually pays. The wording is "every new paying customer you refer". A friend who signs up, builds something on the free tier and never upgrades earns you nothing at all. Send the link to the person who was already going to buy Core.
- Spend the credits soon after they land. Replit's pricing documentation states that the extra above your monthly allocation may be referral or promotional credits, "which have their own expiration dates". It then never says what those dates are. Treat the credits as perishable.
- Screenshot the terms you are relying on. The entire program is a handful of sentences on a marketing page that closes by saying terms and conditions may change at any time at Replit's discretion, and that no guarantees are made. There is no dated, versioned document to point at later.
The fine print that decides whether you keep it
The clauses that would normally govern a referral are simply not written anywhere.
There is no referral contract at all. We searched the full Terms of Service for the word "referral" and found it zero times, and no separate referral terms document exists that we could find. What exists is a marketing page.
Replit confirms the credits expire and declines to say when. The pricing documentation is specific that referral or promotional credits have their own expiration dates; the dates themselves are published nowhere we searched. Assume the credits are perishable, and spend them.
Nobody has written down what happens if your friend takes a refund. Replit's Terms of Service give a buyer full refunds for subscription payments made within 30 days of purchase. Whether your $20 in credits survives that refund is not published anywhere.
Nothing is published on countries, identity checks, caps or tax. Not published is not the same as does not exist. If any of these apply to you, the only stated route to an answer is emailing Replit's support address.
"Instantly" is a marketing claim, not a term. The referral page says the credits arrive instantly. No holding period, minimum tenure or reversal window is published in either direction.
There is one program here, as far as anyone can read. Replit runs a partner page describing Integration, Solution, Government and Education partner programs, which are enterprise arrangements; its body text never rendered for us, so we will not claim flatly that no publisher affiliate program exists. The in-app referral is the only Replit program we found that pays an ordinary user, and it pays in credits.
Skip this offer if
You are on the free plan and have no intention of paying for Replit. Your credits will sit unspendable until you upgrade, and upgrading costs more than the credit is worth.
You wanted money. Every reward in this program is Replit currency. Several offers elsewhere on this site pay cash, and none of them ask you to subscribe to anything first.
You were planning to chase the volume tiers. Fifty paying referrals is a marketing campaign, and it pays $1,000 in credits you can only spend back inside the product.
Is it worth your time?
If you already pay for Replit, yes, and it takes about a minute: send your link to the person you were going to recommend it to anyway, and $20 comes off your usage bill when they subscribe. If you are on the free plan, your credits are held until you pay at least $20 a month for the privilege of spending $20, and the whole thing rests on four sentences that end by saying no guarantees are made. Take the $20 if it lands in your lap. Do not organise an afternoon around it.
If you go on to refer others yourself, Replit's own page states the rate does not escalate: five paying referrals is $100 in credits, fifty is $1,000, both at the same flat $20 a head.
