A MasterClass Guest Pass gives you 14 days free, and on day 14, unless you have canceled, a full year of MasterClass is billed to your card.
The help center puts it in one line: “A Guest Pass grants recipients a 14-day free trial with full access to the MasterClass library and features.” The terms narrow who can send one: “The Guest Pass Offer is only available to select members in certain jurisdictions, for a limited time only.” They give the pass no dollar value: “Guest Passes have no retail or cash value.”
What pays what
| A new member who redeems a Guest Pass | 14 days of full access, then the annual plan |
|---|---|
| A new member with no invitation | No free period in anything we read |
| Anyone who has bought Annual Membership or taken a trial or introductory offer before | Not eligible |
| Someone buying a gift at checkout today | $10, $15 or $20 a month, billed annually |
| A Buy One, Get One gift, as the Gift Terms print it | A free year, redeemed within 365 days of purchase; not shown in checkout today |
For scale: the gift checkout lists $10, $15 and $20 a month, billed annually, so a year is $120, $180 or $240 by our arithmetic (twelve times the monthly figure). Those are gift prices. The terms say a converted Guest Pass is charged the price displayed on your own sign-up screen, and the plans page gave us no prices in a form we could read.
Do this, in this order
- Check you qualify before you enter a card. You must be new to Annual Membership, and the terms add: “If you have previously purchased Annual Membership, or taken a trial or introductory offer, you are ineligible for this offer;” You must also give a valid payment method and sign up on MasterClass's website directly, not through a third party.
- Redeem from the member's link. The sender can email it or copy a direct link from Send a Guest Pass. You click Claim Guest Pass, choose a plan, create an account and enter payment details. The help center says: “You will not be charged until the 14-day trial ends.”
- Put day 14 in your calendar, and cancel before it if you do not want a year. “If you choose not to continue after the trial, you can cancel anytime during the 14-day period through your account settings.” The terms say to log in and follow the prompts on the Settings page.
- If the charge lands anyway, ask for the refund inside 30 days. The help center says a Guest Pass that converts to a paid membership is covered by the 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee, and “The 30-day period begins on the date of your original transaction.” The Terms of Service deny refunds to accounts MasterClass decides broke its policies, at its sole discretion.
- Before year two, turn auto-renewal off. MasterClass says a renewal notice is sent 30 days before the renewal date. The guarantee does not cover renewals, and the Terms of Service say that if you cancel mid-period, fees already paid are not refunded; you keep access to the end of the period.
Unless you cancel before the end of the Guest Pass Period, you will automatically be enrolled in MasterClass's Annual Membership, an auto-renewing annual subscription, and your payment method will be charged the price that was displayed on your sign-up screen for the first year of your subscription.
Where MasterClass's own pages disagree, and what it does not publish
A Buy One, Get One year that checkout does not show. A help article still explains how to send the free gift: “When purchasing your Buy One, Get One annual membership you will be prompted to set up your gift during the onboarding process.” The Gift Terms, dated “Date of Last Revision: February 10, 2025”, add that such a free subscription “must be redeemed within 365 days from the date of purchase.” But the gift page and gift checkout we read on September 25, 2026 showed a plain paid purchase headed “Choose a 1-year gift membership” and no Buy One, Get One anywhere. Treat it as printed, not as available. If you ever see it, the Gift Terms say that once a gift is redeemed no refund is permitted, and the 30-day guarantee excludes redeemed gifts.
Terms from 2020 for an offer promoted in 2026. The Guest Pass terms open with “Effective as of November 23, 2020”, while the Terms of Service read “Date of Last Revision: August 19, 2026”. The help center still walks members through sending passes today.
What nobody prints. How many passes a member gets, which jurisdictions qualify, when the offer ends (only “for a limited time only”), and the price a pass turns into. The terms also let MasterClass revoke passes: “MasterClass reserves the right to modify or terminate this Guest Pass Offer at any time and for any reason, including revoking any Guest Passes in its sole discretion.”
Is it worth your time?
If a friend who is a member offers you a pass, yes. Fourteen days of the whole library costs nothing, and you can watch enough to know whether you would pay for it. Set the reminder the day you claim it, because the next step is a charge for a year, not a month.
Do not go looking for a Buy One, Get One deal on the strength of the help article. The live gift checkout did not offer one when we read it, and the terms that describe it were last revised in February 2025. If you want MasterClass without an invitation, price the plan at checkout and lean on the 30-day guarantee, which covers a first purchase made directly on the website.
If you refer: the Guest Pass terms we read describe no reward for the member who sends a pass.
