Cricket advertises a $25 bill credit for a referred customer after 60 days, and its binding terms never name the amount.
Cricket's landing page and support article both put your credit at $25. The credit is applied to your Cricket bill, never paid out. The landing page says it applies only to the monthly wireless plan charge and expires when the account is canceled. The support article says account credits only expire when Cricket service is canceled, so there is no clock on it while you stay.
What pays what
| You, activating a new line on a new account with a referral code and staying 60 days | $25 credit |
|---|---|
| Extra lines activated on your new account | Nothing more; one credit per new account |
| Joining a friend's existing Cricket account | $0 |
| Cancelling before 60 days | $0 |
| The amount the binding terms commit Cricket to | None stated |
Refer A Friend is a program whereby Cricket customers are afforded an opportunity to earn an account credit, in an amount to be determined by Cricket in its sole discretion, by promoting Cricket wireless service.
That is the only sentence in the terms about how much you are paid. The $25 lives on the landing page and in the support article, which are marketing and help pages. The terms also let Cricket change, discontinue or end the program, including the ability to earn, claim and use credits, at any time without notice, and say continued participation counts as acceptance of a change.
Do this, in this order
- Get the link before you activate. A Cricket customer with an eligible online account and at least 30 days of active service sends it from the myCricket app. You open it, give an email address, and Cricket sends you a unique 13-character code. You cannot refer yourself.
- Activate a new line on a new account, on a qualifying rate plan. The terms do not list which plans qualify. The support article says a friend cannot be referred onto an existing account.
- Enter the code inside its 30 days. The landing page says: “Code expires 30 days after receipt. Enter code at time of eligible activation or after activation but before code expiration.” At activation it can be entered in a store, online, on the device or by calling customer service. After activation you need an online account to enter it.
- Stay active for 60 days, then check your Account Summary. The credit is applied automatically. The support article says a suspended account still receives it after 60 days of service, as long as service is not canceled.
Where Cricket's own pages disagree
Does your credit depend on your friend staying? The terms say: “For a Referee to be eligible for and receive the account credit, Referrer must maintain an active Cricket account for a minimum of 60 days after Referee activates the new account.” The support article tells a new customer whose friend has canceled: “Yes, you will receive your $25 credit for referrals made as long as you do not cancel service within 60 days of joining Cricket.” The terms are the contract. If your friend is about to leave Cricket, do not count on the credit.
Code before or after activating? One support answer says: “You must have a referral code before activating service to take advantage of the Refer a Friend program.” The next says you have 30 days after activating to enter a code in the app, and the terms allow entry after activation too. Getting the code first satisfies every version.
When it lands, and what it pays for. The landing page says after 60 days of active service in one place and “$25 credit applied w/in 3 bills” in another. It says the credit applies only to the monthly wireless plan charge; the support article says credits can pay for service and plan features.
Not published. No end date, no date on the terms, and no list of qualifying plans. The terms bar anyone under 13, ask those between 13 and 18 to have a legal guardian agree, bind you to Cricket's arbitration terms, and apply Texas law. Cricket and affiliated employees and employee discount holders are excluded. In a case of fraud or suspected fraud, the terms let Cricket forfeit credits and cancel your wireless service.
Is it worth your time?
If you have already chosen Cricket, yes. Ask a friend who has been with Cricket for at least 30 days to send you their link, get the code by email, and enter it when you activate. That is a few minutes for $25 off a later bill. The credit does not expire while you remain a customer, so nothing pushes you to spend it badly.
It is not a reason to choose Cricket. This page compares no plan prices, because we have not examined them here, and $25 once does not settle which carrier is cheaper for you over a year. Keep in mind what the contract says and does not say: Cricket pays an amount it decides, it may change the program without notice, and the credit can never become cash. We have no sign that Cricket is paying anything other than the $25 it advertises. We are telling you the terms would allow it.
