$100 lands only if $1,500 arrives as real payroll or benefits ACH. Push it from your own bank and it is $0.
Two things decide what you actually collect. First, which product you open: the "up to $100" on the Axos landing page is a maximum, not a flat rate, and only Axos Checking and the personal loan pay it; Axos ONE and Summit Savings pay $50, and a mortgage referral pays $500 to the borrower. Second, and this is the one that actually decides most attempts: $1,500 has to arrive as a real ACH payroll or benefits deposit. A transfer you push yourself does not count.
- What you get, opening Axos Checking$100
- What you get, opening Axos ONE$50
- What you get, opening Summit Savings$50
What you are paid depends entirely on which product you open, not on anything about how the referral is structured.
What pays what
| Axos Checking, once $1,500 arrives by direct deposit in 90 days | $100 |
|---|---|
| Axos ONE, same $1,500 direct deposit test | $50 |
| Summit Savings, $5,000 of new money held for a 30-day stretch | $50 |
| Personal loan, applied for in 120 days and kept current | $100 |
| Mortgage, funded within 30 days of the application | $500 credit, not cash |
| Business Basic Checking, $3,000 held for 90 days | $50 |
| Business Premium Savings, $30,000 held for 90 days | $50 |
| Pushing $1,500 in from your own account at another bank | $0 |
| Anyone who has ever held any Axos account, Axos Invest included | $0 |
Note the mortgage row: that $500 lands as a credit toward closing costs, applied at closing, rather than paid to you as cash. It is the one product on this table that does not pay in money you can spend anywhere.
Do this, in this order
- Check you are new to all of Axos, not just to checking. You are only eligible if you have never been the primary or joint owner or borrower on any Axos deposit account, loan, or Axos Invest account. A brokerage account you opened years ago and forgot about is enough to disqualify you, and you will not find that out until the payout does not arrive.
- Get the link from an actual person you know. We do not hold an Axos referral link, and Axos's own terms say links are meant for personal sharing with friends, family, and acquaintances, with distribution through paid advertising, automated tools, or bulk messaging prohibited and grounds for disqualification.
- Pick your product before you open anything. You may only earn one Refer a Friend reward, and only one promotional reward per product category. There is no opening checking for the $100 and then circling back for the savings $50 later.
- Confirm your paycheck can genuinely be routed there. Employer payroll or government benefits by ACH count; almost nothing else does. If your income arrives as a mobile check deposit, a person-to-person payment, or an international payroll run, the deposit products pay you nothing.
- Fund it within 60 days, then clear $1,500 within 90. Two clocks run at once. An account left unfunded can be closed inside 60 days. The $1,500 total is measured across the first 90 days after opening, so two ordinary paychecks usually do it.
- If you are going the savings route, the test is completely different. Summit Savings does not care about direct deposit. It wants at least $5,000 of new money in, plus a monthly average balance of at least $5,000 held for at least one full 30-day period within the first three months. Pulling the money back out early costs you the $50.
- Keep an eligible account open and in good standing until the money lands. Axos pays within 21 days of the requirements being met, straight into the account, and it will not pay at all if no eligible liquid deposit account is open and in good standing at that moment.
The fine print that can still cost you the bonus
The good-standing test happens at payout, not when you qualify. If no eligible liquid deposit account is open and in good standing on the day Axos goes to pay, the bonus simply is not paid. We found no wording about clawing money back after it has been paid on personal deposit accounts.
Vermont is excluded from the loan promotions. Vermont residents cannot take part in the personal loan or mortgage referral offers. No state exclusion was stated for the deposit accounts on the pages we read. Employees of Axos Financial and its affiliates are out entirely, you cannot refer yourself, and minors and trusts cannot take part.
Business accounts run on different rules. Basic Checking wants $3,000 deposited and a $3,000 minimum balance held for 90 days; Premium Savings wants $30,000 on both counts. Those bonuses pay within 30 days rather than 21, closing inside 90 days can trigger a $50 early closure fee, and Axos reserves the right to limit each customer to one new account-related incentive per calendar year.
No cap on referrals is disclosed, which is not the same as unlimited. Nothing on the pages we read states an annual or lifetime ceiling on how many friends you may refer.
The bonus is taxable, and there is no expiry date anywhere. Axos reports these payments on an IRS Form 1099-MISC or 1099-INT. On all three Axos pages we read there is no start date, no end date, and no last-updated stamp on the terms, so check the amounts before you open.
Is it worth your time?
On the numbers, yes, and comfortably. $100 for $1,500 of direct deposits spread across ninety days is a gentler bar than most of the neobank offers on this site, the money is real cash, and it lands within three weeks. Two things decide whether you see any of it. The first is whether your income can actually arrive as employer or government ACH. The second is whether you have ever touched Axos before, including a dusty Axos Invest account, because that single line disqualifies more people than anything else in the terms. Clear both and it is about twenty minutes plus one payroll change.
